Song of Lament
(Elrénia's Song)
Over the mountains
From the sea
The land stretched out
Too far to see
The land runs red
The enemy bold
Twas all proclaimed,
Prophesies old.
The sky does cry
Its tears rain down
Falls on the dead
Lying on the ground
Its sorrow soothes
Down from above
Cov'ring the lost
The ones I love
Weep not for me
I've always known
I'll sacrifice
My life, my own
I'll never see
My sons again
They lie beneath
The Sylvan glen
Now rest, my love
Your pain is stayed
Your sleeping place
A stone-cold grave
The peoples freed
They count the lost
Evil repelled
But, what a cost!
Back to the west
My pain I flee
The price too great
It wears on me
Immortal love
I've never sought
I now will die
My chosen lot
Now hie away
The gray boats sail
I grasp for peace
But to no avail
The only thing
Can mend my heart
To know in death
We'll never part.
Author notes
This song inspired by the LOTR movie version of the Battle of the Hornsburg, however, it can apply to any war at any time in history.
It speaks of the loss of those left behind.

Weirdsis,
Thank you for your comment. I am glad you like it. My songs do not do well here; not cutting enough, I guess. I do hope this is dark enough for you, though. -

This is wonderfully written and so sad, But I feel he still goes on waiting for death which i hope is what he has done.I felt as though seeing all this with my own eyes, wonderful. -

Um, her husband and sons die in war. And she does not kill herself. It is based on the world of LOTR. She chooses to die a mortal rather than sailing West where she would live forever. However, it is really about the loss due to war and the toll of those left behind. But I am glad you liked it. I hope the music helped.
