Once upon a time,
you heard it and you know it will be the same ol' rhyme
but not in this story,
this one is sad and kind of gory.
Here we go
There is this young girl, as we all know
She had a great life, everything was going right.
That is until that one fateful night.
She was drunk and high off weed,
and her friends decided they where in the need for speed.
"Lets go they said" as they headed for the door,
"I don’t know" she said as she got up off the floor.
"Oh stop your whining, come have some fun,
if you chicken out again, our friendship is done."
"Ok I'll go but I'm not driving along with you,
I'll just sit here and watch, and smoke this joint too."
"No way babe, your gunna drive in this race for speed,
and the grand prize winner receives this bag of weed."
"What a great prize, call me in
this is a race I defiantly will win."
Car doors opened and closed and engines started.
Then to the starting line each car darted.
At the red light each car took its place
and each driver looked each other in the face.
Engines where revving hearts where beating fast.
This impatient waiting just could not last.
Then the light turned green and off the cars sped
vroom vroom was all that was said.
Then all of a sudden...bam!
One into another each car would ram.
Tangled and twisted was all that you could see,
a giant junkyard it what it looked like to me.
Five cars all wrecked up, but only four where in the race.
Who was in the car that filled the extra space?
Sirens blared as the raced to the scene,
not knowing what to expect, their senses where keen.
They came to the place where the wreck had been done,
one man said "it looks like some teens just wanted to have fun."
Going back the car of our young girl,
just peeking inside would make your toes curl.
Her passenger was crammed up in silence and very much dead.
She sat there looking horrified as blood poured from her head.
She was covered in cuts and her face burned from the air bag.
Her seat belt till in place, but shattered glass served as her gag.
But what’s that noise, not all is lost,
our young girl is breathing but with a high cost.
The men in white did their best to get her friend out in one piece
they did what they could but they then had to cease.
The moved to our girl, and saw she still had breath,
well not everyone in this wreck will experience death.
They pulled her from the tangled twisted metal,
slowly removing her foot from the pedal.
They pulled her out and they begun to tend,
each wound or puncture they would mend.
As other cars continued to be searched more hearts grew sorrow,
for the rescuers knew that these young teens would not see tomorrow.
As they reached the 5th car they where tired and sad,
and once they got inside, they found out it’s the only survivor’s mom and dad.
Their hearts filled with tears as each person was pronounced dead,
except for our girl who took a few to the head.
They where all young and full of life,
all the teens and the man and his wife.
Mothers and fathers, family and friends
all gather to hear about the kids ends.
Awaking in the hospital our girl goes into panic,
so the nurse brought her some tea and said it was organic.
"What happened, why am I here?"
She yelled at the nurse in fear.
"A terrible wreck you where just in,"
the nurse replied as she picked up her clipboard and pen.
"Of all ten people only you made it through."
"But there was only 8 of us, who where the other two?"
"A mother a father, a husband a wife,
both in the car, both lost their life."
"Oh that’s so sad, I wonder if I knew
the couple who died so suddenly two."
"Why yes dear you did,
but like most teens you probably knew them better as a kid."
"What do you mean, how do you know.
How do you know that this is so?"
"Well my dear there is something I must tell you
I hate to say it but it’s true.
I hope a great relationship with them you had,
because my dear this dead couple was your mom and dad."
"No, this cant be right!
All we ever did was fight!
I never showed them how much I cared
and I don’t remember the good times we shared.
I can’t even remember the last time I said 'I love you'
I hate to say it but it’s true."
"I’m so sorry dear," the nurse said.
Now lay still so I can patch up your head.
"I can’t believe that their all gone,
my family and friends...it will be hard to move on."
Now a thought to all of you
next time your friend wants to drink and drive here’s just what you do.
Tell them 'no' and walk away
So then it won’t be you who will pay.

Outstanding
Peer pressure, the cause of so much carnage in this world today. I agree with you wholeheartedly, just say no. Just the thought of being the cause for your parents deaths may be what it takes to wake up some of these people. Nice work. this could also translate great into a short story or column for your school paper, Take care and God Bless.
