It was early in the nineteenth century,
the vast clipper ship would set sail upon the sea,,
a long voyage began on the coast of Ireland,
the final destination was the American colonies.
All the passengers were rather common people,
searching for a new life in the promise-land,
God fearing folk they put their trust in the Lord,
the ship set sail, their fate was in God's hands.
The first night was full of joy and wonder,
children's laughter echoed from bow to stern,
a billowing thunderhead off in the distance,
caused the captain and crew a bit of concern.
The clipper ship was heading to a new horizon,
lightning streaked across the darkened sky,
the wind was lashing at the pearl white sails,
the ocean swells were cresting twenty feet high.
The ship's captain and crew fought nature's fury,
passengers were singing praise to the Lord,
as the storm worsened with each crashing wave,
everything seemed hopeless for everyone aboard.
Suddenly the sky opened with a ray of sunlight
shining like a beacon upon the mighty sea,
the crew and passengers said, "thank you Lord",
as they all prayed and knelt down on there knees.
The tattered sails were hoisted in the sea breeze,
tears of joy met the ship's final destination,
a life full of dreams would begin in the new land,
these immigrants would help settle a great nation.
