First there’s one, glist’ning gently in the light
Of winter’s moon that hangs o’er leafless trees.
The snowfall starts and soon will fill the night,
Its rustling sounds are winter’s symphonies.
Each shape that falls is different than the rest,
Uniquely made, a work of matchless worth.
Such wond’rous beauty must be heaven blest,
Transformed from nothing as it falls to earth.
Now sep’rately they fall through wintry air
To join with others in a growing crowd
That covers o’er the ground that had been bare,
A sparkling white and beautifying shroud.
A fragile crystal, beauty formed above,
Created all for us by one who loves.
Author notes
The uniqueness of snowflakes is amazing, like the uniqueness of people. Yet, they relinquish their uniqueness to be joined together with others, retaining some of it, yet bonding, much as happens in a marriage. Interesting.

I've only seen snow once, so to read this I was able to close my eyes and picture each snowflake falling, looking different to the rest

What a beautiful sonnet. I love the way you describe the snowflakes. It's amazing how there can be so many, just like there are so many people, but as you say, no two are exactly alike. Snow creates such a fresh, glistening, crispiness to everything. It also replenishes waterways and the soil whenit melts as well as giving the soil a season of rest from the days of harvest. So many ways to have taken this thought. Great job! Good luck in the contest!

Beautiful! Simply beautiful! Isn't it amazing how they are so unique? And yes, unique as people are! They do attract one another don't they, and love to unite to make a beautiful sight! As does a family. (SIGH) How I want one of those...Thankyou for entering my contest, good luck! Dari xxx

Another beautiful sonnet in this contest, make me want to go and change mine now. Yes with each flake unique as are people. Then the blending together, very well written.
