So Heavy Now. (tanka & wakiku)

back from retirement
my badge of office
so heavy now
the snow
upon my brow

before the men
a gentle ghost
of legends

A grey head is a crown of glory. That is the first thought that came to mind. And then there was the image of a young detective going to the home of a retired great to seek advice. (too much American TV).
I have read this and then the but describing this style and then reread. I like this, and I can see where atrue understanding of haiku is needed to write one.
well done. this presents an image that will mean something different to each who reads it.
    Susan.

Myron asked the question on my mind and after visiting simply haiku I see its definition reflected in what you have presented here. To me, it really completes the tanka, though completes is not exactly what I mean. But it does add another dimension to the whole poem. Certainly a nice model to study as well as enjoy. Thanks. Stu

    Thank you Myron,
A wakiku is a side verse usually associated with renga. A good description of how wakiku can be utilised can be found in simply haiku www.poetrylives.com/SimplyHaiku/SHv2n1/renku/beginnings.html

In this sample I was experimenting with its use as an exptra verse to show an on-looking perspective (still in tanka style using just one ku.)
    Hope this helps
    Andrew

    depth

thank ya for the tanka...at first i thought it was sad, but now i think there's a lot more depth to it...

what is a wakiku? this one reads like a haiku without concrete sense images...

I don't exactly understand the meaning of this write, but it was well written and I think it has something to do with a metaphor for some reason...Anyway, keep writing.
