A gentle dusting of snow fell yesterday,
old nan winter is knocking at my door,
go away old man it's much to soon,
I don't want to see you anymore.
The pond we swam in last summer,
will soon be frozen over with ice,
all the beauty of the autumn leaves,
fall and die, not looking very nice.
The cornstalks lay rotting in the field,
harvesting the sweet corn is now done,
our feathered friends are heading south,
searching for the warmth of the sun.
It's time to don our scarfs and mittens,
find the long johns that we packed away,
the daylight hours are much too short,
warm some cider on those long winter days.
We will throw some logs on the cozy fire,
await Winter to see what it may bring,
as the cold north wind starts to howl,
we sit and yearn for the return of Spring.

You capture the season well with your words and the imagery is excellent. I particularly like the last verse. And it's referal to the yearning for spring to return. As each season changes I look forward to the next. Spring and autumn are my favourite times of the year. Very well put together...Take care..
