I'm Thankful

I’m Thankful

I'm thankful for each new day
And for the life it brings my way
For all the trees and all the birds
For all their songs and all His words

I'm thankful I live the way I do
And wish as much for each of you
A loaf of bread, a glass of wine
A warm bed at sleepy time

I'm thankful for friends and family dear
For the times when they are near
To share a smile a friendly chat
Their love and kindness, all of that

I'm thankful for my peace of mind
A cozy home after the daily grind
If some days I'm stressed and burned
'tis but a lesson to be learned

I'm thankful for all that I can give
To help another to cope, to live
For God has given to us each a life
Some painless, some filled with strife

I'm thankful for the power I feel
With each moment, a smile that's real
As with each tear for happiness yearned
A smile given is a smile earned

I’m thankful for the will to go on
When my strength seems to be gone
And when the time is here I’m laid to rest
I’ll have lived among the very best

This is a beautiful poem. People usually forget that they really have so much to be thankful for, as I have for the past few months. This just reminded me that, although life may seem like hell, there is always something to be thankful for. Great job!

    Hello Dee,

We all have so much to be thankful for, but noone has expressed it more eloquently than you have in this wonderful poem. I am delighted to have made it to your site and sad that it took so long. You have become an instant favorite of mine, and I shall see you again soon, I am sure.

Kind regards and best wishes for the holiday season,

Cute and cuddly with extra fluff. I could hear this being sung in a Disney movie with a really bubbly tune, but in a way that is a really good thing. I personally love it.

I think this poem is absolutely beautiful. It is honest and doesn't stress the rhymes. You remain solid and truthful to what you believe and that is always an admirable quality in a poet and in a person. I find this piece to be a perfect compliment to this time of the holidays and family. It reminds us how we all have something to be thankful for and to know that is ours, even if we have nothing, we always have ourselves. This piece is a heartwarming lift of spirits in our increasingly negative world.

    much love,
    James

This is beautiful, Dee! We take so much for granted these days, and we walk past people who could use our help. If we're able, capable and so on. If we all viewed life and our responsibilities as you do, nobody would be alone. I'm thankful for so much, and I'm thankful that I know you. I love you, Dee!--Kel

Yes indeed, all life is dual and we only have two choices
to live and think in the good (regardless of what/where we are)
or to live and think in the bad. I wish people really could
see that it is all about perception and that even in bad there is good, if only for a lesson to teach or to ready one to help another somewhere down the road. Maybe it comes from to much self-focus, looking in and blaming others instead of looking out and blaming self. Some may have to do with the pace of life, to caught up to even think and reflect about what truth really is and how things run their course. You have got it right, even on a bad day there is still much to be thankful for. I consider anyday that I can get out of bed a good day...

It's all about self responsibility, not just a word for today
    but for a lifetime...

    Hugs and love
    Eddy

    VERY INSPIRING!

Indeed, Dee, there IS so much to be thankful for! In a country that is blessed beyond what 3/4 of the world will ever experience, we have so very much to be grateful for! I'm thankful for this beautiful write, for there is very little gratitude I see expressed around me for all that we all have daily! And I concur with all the things that you said you were thankful for! I, too, have been blessed with all those, and so much more! This is a beautiful write, Dee! Thank you for your inspiring words! May we all take the time through this holiday season to remember (and count) our blessings!

I'm glad this poem has touched you, helped you feel what you have to be thankful for. Losing a special loved one such as your father has got to be one of the hardest things to accept. I've been through this recently and I try to focus on the wonderful part of our time together and be thankful for that.

Thank you for your very beautiful comment, Jenn, it means a lot to me

You know what this poem really spoke to me.. I was feeling like I had nothing to be thankful for bc I have lost my daddy. And I felt like I had nothing no more.. But after reading this It came clear to me... I still have my Life and my hubby and mom and my other family that is still here with me.. I should be thankful that I still have them. Adn you know what else is funny I have no clue on how I got to this poem... Well I guess it was just fate for me to read this.. Thank you from the bottom of my heart helping me see thru this all... I know when you were writing this you weren;t thinking about helping someone.. But you truly did help me... I know now I need to stop thinking the way I am... I look on the brighter side of things that I am truly not alone... I still have people around me that cares about me... You are truly a awsome writer and thanks for posting such a moving piece I have never felt like this with anything else I have read... Man this is a strange feeling.. Well thanks again and God bless you

One should never forget to give thanks and really feel the gratitude - sadly most are so caught up in the daily grind and what they feel is important that they forget.
I am always grateful that I am able to live to love and to laugh - ok, so food, drink and a good foot massage should be mentioned too Loved this one - very well done!

This is such a wonderful moving poem. Your words of thankful expression flow throughout the entire poem, leaving the reader to contemplate his own thankfulness.

It is true our lives are filled with so many things of which we take for granted, simply because they are a part of our everyday lives. You have not failed to mention a single one...you have done a very wonderful job of expressing your personal gratitude for your simple life.

I really enjoyed this poem..and I am bookmarking it for future reflections.

I have often been amazed at those who have so much and find so little joy in it, and then the other end of the spectrum, the ones with seemingly so little, who find such joy in everything!

This was a lovely, almost lyrical, look what gives us happiness if we are bright enought to just realize it.

    Very lovely...

Hi Dee. Most of the time we just accept all the good things life has to offer and never pause to be thankful. I'm the top offender. This is very nicely done and rhymes (so you know I love this)

I'd be more thankful if I had a glass of wine each night though.

I feel doubly blessed after reading this wonderful poem Dee. Like you, I could never list all the things that I am thankful for in a poem. We take far too much for granted sometimes and to that I can only say, "Shame on us!" You have given us all a sweet and gentle reminder and you have done so in such subtle and eloquent way. You are such a classy and graceful woman. I just adore reading you! Stay safe and be well.

    Dear Dee,
This is just crying out to have a lady, sitting at the harmonium while another lady with a beautiful (soprano or alto) voice sings the words. I can hear the melody now. And your words are so very good and so positive they are good reading for the soul.
And thankyou for the great rhyming. I love you. Applause.

Oh this is so heart touching, I absolutely love it! It's so wonderful, that we can wake to a new day, and be thankful, that God has blessed us once again. This shows the peacefullness of the life lived no matter the pain, or suffering one might have endured, but the ending is truly beautiful, no regrets, just that you have lived among the very best! I'm glad you can live such a nice life with the ones you love and the ones who love you. It's so good that you can be thankful for all of this. There's many people who can live a life like yours and they're never thankful for it... that's rather sad. So, great write!! Liked your positive thoughts and the rhyme
