Sandy Night

The stars be callin’ for a storm a creepin along the coast
Not many’ll be a sailin’ tonight, cept for the few that’s ghost
Her heart as dark as night still wrapped in the sands cold grip
Not but a few feet away from the gutted remains of her ship
A beating it does drum like the lightning in the misty air
Booming ever louder until everyone around is suddenly aware
This storm isn’t natural nor is it even right
For the elvin maiden searches on this very night
A mortal soul she would take amongst the many drops of rain
All to soothe the longing in her heart of her fateful pirates pain
Her conscious recreates the moment she knew it was to late
When a rogue cannon ball ripped her ship and sealed her fate
Now she lies between the sand in a bed of shifting inky black
At the “Straits of Offering” with more than one heart in her sack.

Hehehe.....well to be honest I havent written any short stories so I dont know how I would be at it. Perhaps one day I will give it a try, though I think my attention span would hinder me. Either that or my thoughts would flood my mind and leave me with no place to start. Who knows, but it could be fun trying to find out. I do appreciate your great comment on this write, I have been trying to create, describe and give closure as of late with my writes. It was my pleasure to share and my appreciation for you leaving a comment. Thanx and take care.

Oo arr, shiver me timbers etc etc. What a delightful take of a ship that was. It was almost reminiscent of life, as in we live, we die. But then again, everything with an action and a consequence could have that said about it. Nice poem, very well done.

    Saling words...

Hammer, you are so, so good at writing tales about the sea and pirates and this ballad is no exception! I like the mystery, the romance of the days of great sailing ships and when I want to read that, I just read the tales that spills from your pen....these words of inky black upon the sandy bed of paper! Very enjoyable, my friend - keep on writing these great tales and soon you'll have a few hearts in your sack!!

You are too kind kjack. I guess I just enjoy pirates too much because it seems that I am never at a lose for words about them. I am trying to work on a few new ones but have been really busy with real life as of late. I hope to make it back among the poets before too long though. Thank you for reading and take care.

    he shines - brilliant

You know, you get up in the morning, brush your teeth , have a coffee and try to get into the right frame of mind to get through your day when all of a sudden, out of friggin nowhere, a cannon ball hits the side of your ship. Now, I don't know about you , but that's enough to make me say...piss on it, I'm going back to bed!!!!! .
Seriously though HammeR this piece here is a wonderful showcase for your marvelous talent and imagination Bravo Sir!!!!
