Husband, Father, Friend - acrostic

Missing image
Husband, Father, Friend ~ acrostic
    ©copyright 2004 Bonita M Quesinberry, R.C.

    He was a talented artist and an engineer;
    Ever a loving father to three successful sons.
    Robby lived life fairly and without a bit of fear.
    Better yet, he was a friend, when all was said and done;
    Even sharing your pain and grief, for you shedding tears.
    Rest is his now, on this the third day of November;
    Though we all who love him will miss him and remember.

    Cooper: his middle name and his loving wife's maiden.

    Rest is his now, in this year of two-thousand and four.
    Only his wife, Helen, will miss Robby more than we.
    Best of all, he will suffer, as he had, never more.
    Everlasting mem'ries in our minds we shall still see;
    Robby laughing and teasing, leading us through the door.
    Time has a way of healing our grief, though hard it be.
    Still, our hearts are with Helen and the boys: their pain great.
    One day, we'll all be together again; it's a date!
    No tears then, no diseases in heaven's safe haven.

Author notes

I feel this poem fits the contest categories of: sad, personal, Lord

We lost Robby just a few hours ago, on this the 3rd of November 2004. He'd been battling a botched surgery for months. He and Helen, my foster sister, had been married for 40 years. He will be missed so much. Please pray for Helen and their 3 sons.

    I will personally send a prayer out for her, I know what it feels like to lose a husband, and raise children. At the age of 30 I lost my husband and I was left alone to raise three children. The hardest thing of losing a husband is the longer the two of you are together the longer you grieve. So yes my friend I will keep her close to my heart in prayers when I retire. GOD BLESS YOU MY FRIEND AND TAKE CARE LAURA

    This is such a loving tribute to someone you hold dear. I am so sorry for your loss, and I pray that the Lord sends His Comforter to keep all of you strong and in His Peace.
    It is so very hard on the ones left behind, but the ones that are on their way to be with Jesus are finally home.
    Beautiful write.

    What a lovely dedication to a close soul.
    Through you words he is immortalized.
    I especially like how you remembered the things that made him special:
    “Robby laughing and teasing, leading us through the door”
    God bless his soul.

    Very well done and moving...

    What a beautiful way to eternalise a dear husband, father and friend - this is so touching - it moves mountains within...made me remember my dad who died 5 years ago. I am not very fond of acrostics, but I must say, yours was written very eloquently with the ink of love and compassion - it almost makes me want to try my hand at acrostics too. The photo adds to the emotional impact and content of the poem - thank you for sharing this journal of your soul. God bless you

    God be with you and yours

    This is an amazing piece of art and a wonderful tribute to someone you obviously loved very much. I am so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine being able to write something so coherent only hours after such a loss, I'd be a wreck. I too hope you give this poem to the family. Simply wonderful, nearly made me cry.

    God watch over Herbert's loved ones

    How neat that Herbert's middle name and his wife's maiden name is Cooper. My heart aches for the loved ones left behind. Truly, I look forward to seeing my dearest loved ones in heaven too. Like John Edward says, though, we must appreciate and validate our loved ones while they are here too. Dearly departed Herbert reminds us of this. A wonderful photograph.

    You know I will say prayers for Helen & her sons...and for you too, Bon. I'm very sorry for this sad news, but as your write so wonderfully expresses in that last stanza, we will all be together again someday. Once again I am so awed by your writing talent, Bonnie! I've never even entertained the thought of attempting an acrostic, and here you have written such a perfect and beautiful one. And I agree with Wanda, it is obvious this is straight from that wonderfully loving & giving heart of yours. love ya', Jamie

    Heart-breaking news...so sorry...

    Oh, BonnieQ...I'm so sorry, my friend... Yes, prayers for you all...how terribly tragic...but this acrostic is beautiful, BQ...I think she will treasure it in his stead...an exquisite poem, written from the depths of a Loving Heart... Wanda
