She Follows the Wind

She Follows the Wind

How the wind does howl
calling her name
It beckons through tree tops
She can sense the pain

There's a need that is urgent
as she mounts her horse
She must ride quickly
towards the sound of the voice

With horse galloping swiftly
over hills and plain
For the sound is familiar
It is that of her man

They were deeply in love
another place, another time
He is now calling for her
and to him she must ride

The wind changes direction
She fears she is lost
She must go to her lover
no matter what cost

She listens intently
for the sound to return
Her heart beating madly
for her lover she yearns

She rides up the mountains
and down valleys below
His voice getting closer
with each step as she goes

Alone by the ocean
he sits day after day
For his sweet love is now gone
not long since, passed away

His heart is now mournful
and oft he does cry
The breeze carries his anguish
up into the sky

As she continues to ride
upon her trusted black steed
to follow the wind
and the cries she must heed

Just like the wind, these words they do flow.....and fly in the breeze wherever they'll go. Loved it!

so glad you enjoyed this one Damon..and I'm glad you were able to pick up the story ...sometimes I like to write a bit vague, make the reader dig into the words, I think the story is felt more that way...thank you for your wonderful comment and visit, so very much appreciated :)

This is beautiful. The young maiden's ghost riding the horse. The man just sitting by the ocean watching for her to return from some foreign land--not knowing that she has died. She riding her horse not knowing that she is dead looking constantly for her lover. So many things come to mind when reading this; you do have a way of bringing out images in my mind and other peoples too--I think. I loved the poem and the picture goes with it well.

Penny, this poem with its strong and powerful rhythm and rhyme, carries the sound of the galloping horse, following the call of destiny in the howl of the wind ... Kathy had pinpointed the rich emotional content of the poem. I agree full-heartedly. Kindest Regards, Myra
