laughter in the night

my shadow
hunkers down
in a doorway
out of the rain,
street drains steam,
singing liquid songs,
grilled onions hiss over
jazz coated heights,
black lace and liquor
moving the street,
smoothing sight,
young lovers losing
all their fright,
I hear laughter
in the night...

You're my favorite poet on this site so far.

This is a great poem. I love the imagery in your poetry. I know I've said that before but it's what makes or breaks a poem for me. You bring me right to where you are. My shadow hunkers down with your shadow and smells the grilled onions while they hiss. Great lines like "street drains steam, singing liquid songs" really move me.
