In Moments Like These

Moments Like These

Where do they come from? moments like these,
when I知 standing on top of the world

where I am the witness, where I am the scene
with my story being unfurled

when I知 ten feet tall, and I知 bullet proof
defeat has no home on my face

euphoria laced exquisite desires,
boundaries denied in this place

Where do they come from? moments like these
when the sand merely slips through my hand

impotent actions scream in my face
purveyor of my own reprimand

the quicksand of doubting, sly sabotage
undermining my fortress of blame

pendulum swinging a double edged sword
accusingly  calling my name

What are my lessons? in moments like these
when my struggles seek to defend

does the forest hide behind all these trees
does clarity come at the end?

do insights await in shadows of time,
will messengers show me the way?

to portals of wisdom that lead me inside
to answers I seek when I pray

In moments like these

Author notes

I find it interesting (and unsettling at times) to witness my own process as I meander along on this journey we call life. I am reminded to keep the crosshairs fixed on the clarity that inevitably emerges from the quagmire. I am learning to trust this outcome. This is my attempt to put all that into verse.

Ok...this one really caught my eye and I had to stop to read it.
You worded it so well. Just when you succeed..or are on the edge of it,...that inner voice starts to whisper..bring in doubts. It happens to me, also. I have some small success. A job well done, a song well sung... some good strong accomplishment ..and I hear that voice telling me that sometime soon they will recognize the fraud I am. It tells me that I really don't know as much about whatever I am doing..as I think I do. It instills that doubt, undermines my confidence, belittles me.. In relationships..it produces that seed of distrust, limiting my possibilities..it disallows us to "be - or revel in a moment"
You know, it still happens....it is not bringing about humility..it brings about defeat. Even though we recognize it for what it is...it is sometimes difficult not to listen to it.

We have to learn to turn it off. To close our eyes and silence it. Open them again, and smile as we view that moment as our own. As we appreciate an accomplishment...that is totally our own.

Again, I learned from you. Thank you for your courage in sharing.

    Maddie

A great depth this touched for me,
I have a need to go off and rediscover myself...
Molments like this I feel so lost.

No, it is just in days like these.
Thanks again for another thought provoking write.

My my ... what to add to these comments - what is left to add? the write is brilliant introspection about life's highs and lows - a pendulum of thoughts on both sides ... it certainly captures one's thoughts about what makes one feel invincible, what makes one feel vulnerable ... excellent work Henri !

It starts by looking out with optimistic overtones, then delves in on a sliding scale of pessimism- but answers its own questions by consulting the oracle of the inner sanctum.

Ferg, this is just one of those pieces that bore down in the brain and sprout roots ... your ability to masterfully deliver your message is to be admired. Provoking piece indeed ~

moments are what we have. When we encapsulate them into the thought and reality of what is is when we can make the sands of time stand still for one moment and cause a new perspective on idealism to become that which our mind's eye sees.
    a great display.

I simply love the way these few lines indicate a kind of stregth, a fearlessness. Such motivating words for those who might feel defeated at this time. The whole poem, thoroughly thoughtful, reaching, and enjoyable.

This is an excellent write, Ferg, and actually gave me a sense of a natural high, mainly because every word written was as though I, myself, had written them, because, this is exactly how I feel, and you caught me off guard with this write--Hmmmm--strange; the clarity so pronounced within me--love how you view life, as it is very similar to my own views, almost too similar, and that's where the 'strange' comes in. What an impact! Absolutely stunning write from a very gifted poet. Need to read more, Ferg, 'cause now you've caught my attention. Lol! What a way to do it! Wow! Love this!;)Kelly

Amazing write Ferg.. on so many levels. Life, so often, is made by the stringing together of just such moments. Moments of mind blowing clarity; moments of gut wrenching dispair, and everything in between. It's a journey that defies description, yet you've captured a moment of it here. Beautifully done and easily one of my favourites. I love the depth of this and the lovely way you've woven your thoughts into something worthy of being called art.
    Good stuff xx

i really like it when a poem delves into the core of the human experience
~like what you said before about how we are spirits having a human experience
    {trying to remember where i read that ...Seth? Richard Bach?}
    great poem,
    especially liked:
    to portals of wisdom
    that lead me inside
    to answers I seek
    when I pray

Taking a deep breath and smiling inside my heart. Your words touched so deeply.
As I said to kvwriter yesterday, what would life be if we didn't choose the path in which growth was continous!

    deeply ponderous piece Ferg.

If nothing else, i have learned two things in life...

    1. always follow your gut instinct, for it will never lead you wrong
2.all things happen for a reason. however, we may not understand those reason for years to come (if ever) and they won't happen a moment sooner than they are supposed to ...no matter how much we wish they would.

i do so enjoy the places you take me, and the things you leave me to contemplate.
