Was tired of living alonio.
He thought he would woo
Miss Lissamy Lu,
Miss Lissamy Lucy Molonio.

Rode off on his polo-ponio.
He found the fair maid
In a bowery shade,
A-sitting and knitting alonio.
Antonio, Antonio,
Said, "If you will be my ownio,
I'll love you true,
And I'll buy for you
An icery creamery conio!"
Oh, Nonio, Antonio!
You're far too bleak and bonio!
And all that I wish,
You singular fish,
Is that you will quickly begonio."
Antonio, Antonio,
He uttered a dismal moanio;
Then he ran off and hid
(Or I'm told that he did)
In the Antecatarctical Zonio.

Laura Elizabeth Richards was born February 27, 1850, Boston, Massachusetts. Her father was a social reformer who later gained fame as an abolitionist and was the founder of the Perkins Institution and Massachusetts school for the blind. Her mother was the poet Julia Ward Howe who is best known as the author of "Battle Hymn of the Republic".

How fun this was! I remember reading this as a child in a poetry collection and now almost 50 years later found myself remembering most of the words to it! Isn't that funny, how the mind works? Thank you for posting it in its entirety... I had almost all the words remembered. I guess most small children have such uncluttered minds they can absorb whole poems and keep them for decades! Thank you.

I loved this poem as a child and have looked for it for years. I had to memorize it when I was 9, but today at 65 I just remember the stanza that starts, "Oh, nonio, Antonio - you're far too bleak and bonio." Really delighted to see it again.CHORUS

and that is what I strive for but my muse speaks in a different, more serious his mood... This was fun to read. I'll be back to read again. :-) I enjoyed this heh :-)- This is a magic series of limericks put together beautifully. It's is really a load of rubbish but, as a poetic exercise, it is excellent.
