The majestic mountain reaches up to Heaven,
billowing steam once again for all to see.
Mount St. Helens towers in the mountain range,
the earth trembles, purple mountain majesty.
Mother Nature awakens her sleeping crater,
spewing ashes and steam into the blue sky.
The wildlife are aware of the hidden dangers,
near the crater no birds would dare to fly.
Memories keep flashing back to nineteen eighty,
when Mother Nature's fury was a big surprise.
The enormous eruption of the majestic volcano,
happened so quickly in front of our eyes.
The deaths and the destruction were a reminder,
if you battle nature, nature will probably win.
Though the ground was covered in rock and ashes,
the renewal of plant and wild life would begin.
Now twenty four years later, it rumbles anew,
the volcanoes steam is billowing once more.
The waiting and the watching shall continue,
is the sleeping giant ready to erupt like before?
billowing steam once again for all to see.

I was living in Indiana with little babies when this happened, and I recall watching in horror on the news. You did an excellent job of bringing back vivid imagery. Good luck in the contest. Hugs, Patricia

Well done
Very good, Sandy! At first, I thought you were writing about Mt. Rainier, the twelveth tallest mountain in the world. of course, in short order I realized you were writing about Helen. Indeed, I believe her wrath will be far worse than 1980; for this time she will spew hot lava, no longer just a pyroplastic volcano. Awesome sight we've been witnessing!
Well done, hon; so, good luck in the contest! Love and hugs, BonnieQ

What a wonderful entry...I was hoping someone would write about Mt. St. Helens.
I really enjoyed this. The rhyming and flow were good. I especially liked the ending. Thank you for entering my contest and good luck!

I have to say that this is was one of my favorites the first time I read it. We all do still wonder even as she is now shrouded in clouds and snow. Hopefully we will get an occasional glimpse at that growing glowing dome.

Don't you know smoking is bad for you. But it's not as bad as being buried in xolcano ash.
. Thank you for the amusing comments. They brighten my day. Take care, Sandy (an ex smoker)
