AA Milnes' work is fantastic. I first read and heard the unforgettable verse when I was only three and now I'm 58 I still have them pop into my head at anytime. Always making it a fun time. The memories of childhood.
Boy, do I love this poem. Milne really speaks to both parents and children at their respective levels. I still flag it it to parents of younger kids, embarrassing myself and them by reciting it. Part of the charm of this poem, aside from the rhymes, rhythm, meter, etc, is the role reversal that especially appeals to children 3-6+. I remember my children's humor at that age focused on relationships out of context or inappropriate, like pretending to take a nap at the bottom of the stairs (hysterical). The reversed power relationship is the big joke for the kids. The boy's name that goes on forever pokes fun at pretentious parents who saddle their wee ones with unwieldy monikers. This is a great walking poem to keep spirits up.
