One notch on my gun for every man I had to kill,
I stared every man down, my gun firing at will.
I hold the power close to my hip,
Custom made with a pearl handle grip.
Many have died because they didn't see me as a threat,
I'm sure that's a mistake, they would have liked to regret.
When I was sixteen years old, I was left on my own,
My survival skills are fine tuned, sharply honed.
I welcome the taste of grit inside my mouth,
The only thing I feel as I'm headed south.
My horse is the only one I dare trust,
I'm a young gun just doing what I must.
No sleep, I see all their dead eye stares,
My mind is wired, my soul layed thread bare.
Going through the motions of living, simply all pretend,
Dream of getting shot, putting my misery to an end.
I'll see what tomorrow brings, in the next one horse town,
Will my gun be fast enough, or will I get shot down?

Definite gunslinger feel to this as well. I liked the first two lines the best. Thanks for entering!

Even though I have not read the Stephen King book mentioned - many seem to know and think you have done a great job writing this. Like the rhyming couplets you have chosen to write and the flow of these lines. Good job.

A wild life indeed, the times of the wild west. We have it so easy in this day and age, comfort lives, television and stereo systems and cars. All they ahd were beans, a horse and their wit for most of the time, and quick hands or death.

Excellent

Ride on girl, hope you dont meet up with the stranger with the big iron on his hip. Wide open spaces and a life of frenzied excitement is what I see through your western portrait. I thought of Jesse James and when he was shot, and also the movie young guns when I read over this write. Thanx for sharing and take care Queen.

I love the picture in this! Your poem told a compelling story, and your style of writing is impressive, this poem completely captivated me, and is dark and haunting. Really, really good.

Excellent
Queen, this poem was very interesting.
I loved it.
Keep penning.

Squee! Amazing, as usual. This one reminded me of "Young Guns", the movie with Emilo Estavez, about Billy the Kid. It was very well written. I loved the rhyme, and the images were absolutely perfect. Keep up the great work, sweetheart!

OOO... I like this! hehe. We used to go down to Oregon almost everyweekend to my Grandpa's home. He had a huge satellite disk, but all that he ever watched, or let us watch, were Western's. I always complained about having to watch them over and over, but now that we don't do that anymore, I really miss it... it is sad... anyway, thanks for bringing me back there for a while! I really like this piece, very short, sweet, and it delivers an awesome theme. I am going to have to read more of your poetry! ~~Kasia

Not as refined as I would have hoped, but I loved the free and eager spirit that drove this poem. It's always amazing to write about something as wild and free as a lone cowboy. Perhaps if you added a bit more description, such as a comparison between him (or his soul/spirit) and the swiftly blowing dusty wind...I dunno. But it was excellent, keep it up!
-
I loved this poem, only because I like westerns, and your poetry is wonderful. Reminds me of that old show my parents and their friends talk about, with Emilio Estavez...I don't know what it is, but they always talk about it. This kind of made me feel as though I was really there and that's neat. Awesome write!

Not bad at all! It kinda reminds me of The Dark Tower series by Stephen King; makes me think of Roland, the Gunslinger; even though I know you were writing a Western poem. I say, keep up the good writing!
-
