Only Blowing In The Wind (contest)

they always talk
                about Reagan
                               being the great communicator
yet what does he communicate?
                             the same old Republican
                                                      rhetoric
that has been preached for the last
                                 30 years....
     large corporations that don't give
a damn about the average person
support cheap labor that puts average
                                     people out of a job.
And Bush is no different.
                            Promises made
yet when it to comes to keeping
                                     the promises
                                                somehow they always
conveniently forget
                    caring about the people
that put them in. Them care?
Yea right!
            Sounds like a preacher
                                   who talks about sin
yet takes a lover
                 behind closed doors
                                      leaving one wondering if they
ever had any ethics.
                      Only if one is smart
knows that they're blowing in the wind.

Well they do sound good, just a pity they do talk out of their arses. Same here with Tony Blair, hes another toss pot in my book! They'll say anything for the vote... Just ashame they weren't taught the right ethics either. I always got told never say something ya can't keep to... My mother would have tanned his backside for sure

    Nice write

this is awesome Bill. really it is. I totally agree. I don't think politicians care about the small people even though every person makes an impact on everyone else... when will they learn that every single person makes a difference on who is in office? Some people may not agree on what you have to say but I totally agree. Great great write Bill!

Is this supposed to be an entry to my contest? Because, while it's a good poem, I don't take prewrites.

I have never seen politics put so eloquently in a poem. Gives you a different view from a poetic perspective. Excellent piece.

this last republican has made my voting choice an easy task:
hard Democrat alll the way!! on this election anyway....

    nicely stated
and what ever happen to the bill passed Leave No Child Behind
in the school system that now has the largest falling out rate in history of kids quitting highschool.
And what about the 40% percent of teachers loosing their state funding for public schools? it is a sad house of republicans today....
    this ripped my heart into
thanks for waking us all up!, LOL

i like the poetiic qualities that you incorporated into this.. it is a very effective tool of communication, such gentle verse. the 'yeah right' seemed slightly out of place, but it created a very strong poem, with the contrast between it and the verse. much love to you. amazing write, as always.

I see a lot of passion and personal frustration in this piece and I can sympathize with you completely. Having worked in the field of Human Services for so long, I have seen so many needy programs suffer from cutback after cutback until they could no longer function and do what they were designed to do as far as actually HELPING others. This is a great piece Bill. Usually your work is flawless but this one came so deeply from your heart... I hope you don't mind that I have pointed out a few words here and there that you might want to look over to make this flow better for your readers. Cling to your convictions and the passion you hold for your beliefs. Great job!

    9.5/10

Brilliant, very politically aware and intelligent, so many political poems and songs are shit, they never have any intelligence in them and are just the same 'fuck bush' stuff we always hear. This however is stunningly well written with a fine structure and very coherent ideas.

    Good Piece, Good Views

Today politics is a difficult area, no matter what you do you always upset someone. Unfortunately most politicians upset the little guy. Society is structured so the fat cats stay up top and average joe stays where he "belongs". Fame and luck are the only things that can make us rich, hard work doesn't count anymore. Oh yea, I like how you have a politics collection. I thought of doing that awhile ago, to separate my regular poems from the more "controversial" ones. I got too many flames and even a death threat on my political/patriotic ones, so I stopped writing them. But you write them so well, don't stop. Sheryl

Hmmm, I hear ya Bill. It's a touchy subject. But it comes down to basic trust. I don't know, maybe it's me, feel like i'm the only person left with even a drop of conscience or ethics, but I think if you make a promise to someone, doesn't matter to who, one person or a whole country, you should be bound by your word of honor as a human being. I'm no expert on politics, but I do know what keeping my word means and a promise is a promise and if they swear on a Bible or whatever their faith is, to help do such and such "for the people, by the people, and of the people" of the USA, then they should honor their word. It's not a game where you can pretend to be on the good side just to get votes then change sides. I have no respect for people like that, I want to be able to trust them, whether they are president, mayor or preacher...either way, they have to answer to a higher power in the end. Good one, makes you think! Sheryl

yes..but most politicians are liars..think about it...its impossible to have so many people vote for you without playing sides..if that makes sense...lack of choices would factor in, if voting was not such a unappreciated 'idea'...action, etc..whatever it is...placing of sheep into a barn..maybe..neways...this was well written and well worth the read
