I show no emotion
So can I really feel pain
Do I even matter
If I always look the same
Too bad you can’t see past these walls
To the me cowering within
Your eyes are too focused
On the sword and dark glare
That’s all this world can see
The outer shell
No tool to crack it open
The cream filling only spoils
Just when I needed it most
There was nobody to set me free
So if looks could kill
I’d never stop staring at you

Powerful
Fabulous poem. "No emotion" "Can I feel pain?" "Do I matter?"
"Cowering within." and then, when they do look, they see the "Sword and dark glare." All they see is the outer shell. Kind of reminds me of Matthew 23:27, "Woe unto you, scribes and
Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres,
which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of
dead men's bones, and of all uncleaness." Accept you are saying
there is something good within, "Cream filling," but then
go on to say "It only spoils." This is a great thought because
it implies there is something innocent and good within, of
course we know that the real evil is only "cowering within,"
because that is the stance it must take for now, and of course
it will be but self pity masked as an honest good person who
deserves acclaim. Doesn't your last line prove my point?
"So if looks could kill I'd never stop staring at you.? And
I thought that was really clever slipping in the "Dark glare."
Is that not the truth, in todays world it seems we worship
evil more than good? This is really a great poem. Am I on the
right track or am I reading more into this then you meant?
In either case, I love it. Thank you....Jade Cyr. -
