Life Just is A Simple Game

Life Just is A Simple Game

{ Listen 2 the tune A Simple Game By the Moody Blues }

As the final curtain falls
We see the folly of our lies
Beyond the mental walls
Lives more than money buys

Can heaven be a place
Beyond time and space
Where we are one
Bright as the sun

Or be this a game
Would it turn out the same?
If we knew the heavenly factors
And we here merely actors

Acting out a scene
Do you know what I mean
We each have our given role
All illusion except our soul

Can it really be
Dreams are the only fantasy
And we can build from our dreams
I’m not sure, but that’s the way it seems

So if all the worlds a stage
Then please control your rage
If you don’t like your script
The pages can be ripped

And you can rewrite your life
Don’t forget to leave out strife
As your director and the star
Don’t you know who you are?

Author notes

A Simple Game lyrics

As time goes by you will see
That we're going to be free
You and me, we'll touch the sky
Can you see in your mind's eye
That we are one
We're all the same
And life is just a simple game

There, by your side, I will be
When this crazy world is free
Free from doubt
When it finds out
Exactly what we're meant to be
That we are one
We're all the same
And life is just a simple game

Thoughts of another day
Flashing through my head
Thinking how life could be
All of the things that our great men have said
Be what we want to be
What we deserve to be
What we are meant to be

As time goes by, you will see
That we're going to be free
You and me, we'll touch the sky
Can you see in your mind's eye
That we are one
We're all the same
And life is just a simple game

We're gonna be free
Oohhh, gonna be free
Gonna be free
(Free, gonna be free, gonna be free, Oohhh)

When was the last time you read your own poem?
You say the right words, but your soul is unknown.
Are we really on earth, or are we already there,
Does it really matter, as we lay our hearts bare.

The words to this song, take me way back
To a time when my days were moody and black
But I tore up the script and wrote my own song
Had I not done that, you would not have come along.

It was fate that we met on earth or in heaven
To me you have been my sweet Jewish maven.
You've taught me to do what was hiding inside,
Now, Im finally at peace, I went for the ride.

My words are very funny, but let me tell you,
That they hide the feelings I keep out of view.
You, with your words of honey coated love
Are right out there, soaring with the doves.

I'll love you until the day I die,
I'll write my own script, spread my wings and fly.
For it is you who have show me the way to express
In my prayers every night, it is you I will bless.

Namaste Blessed Be my teacher and friend
I'll love until the very end.

RJ I love and deeply enjoy having you over. Since a small child I could inscribe poetry. But in my family I was encouraged to have a real profession. A starving artist is not my family’s first choice for me. I loved to play the piano and I loved to write songs. But this was considered frivolous to say the least in my family. Logic said do something real. All I can tell you is somehow I have a natural talent… I’ve never assumed anything. There are so many fine songwriters out there. My life journey took me upon many paths. It seemed that my life was destined to be in the soft drink industry. I never attended Songwriter University or had anyone to encourage me in my formative years not in the field of music. And if by magic chance circumstance or fate. Someone with a keen eye saw what I had inside.
Someone took the time to unfold my mind. Someone who could write beautiful poetry and lyrics? I simply adore the poet within the man who wrote to me. His songs of love unfolded me deeply.

Being one so young I was naturally curious and open to everything. I wonder could I even venture to write at this level? In retrospect I see practice makes perfect. Lyric writing is very difficult. I wholeheartedly agree with you. My secret dream is to have someone who really knows how to write great lyrics be my guide. Well someone by the name of RAM has been my guide. If not for his ability to share care and be deeply aware. I would have passed this road by. Even if I feel so much love inside. Thank you for also being my guide. I wonder if there might be another sight out there that just encourages lyrics? In 1986 I started hearing lyrics with the music in my mind. Sort of like a dream. I wondered if this might be a melody I had heard on the radio or somewhere?

Then words started flowing as a fountain from up above and sometimes I could hear the music at the exact same time. But not always.
As fast as I could write words flowed through me. Being of sound mind and body this was a new experience for me. I could not even comprehend what was really happening in the grand scheme of things to be. I wonder will this talent last? Will it one day fade and dissipate? I see the more I share and the more I read of others somehow I gently touch the music of the spheres. I don’t claim to know anything more than you do. This is an art form that I am just beginning to learn. It may seem like I have a lot of experience. But in reality this has been a private ongoing conversation with my songwriter friend RAM. Since I love interspecies communication in which I have failed many times. I thought I would give lyrics a try. So when RAM would send me his songs. Somehow songs flowed through me naturally. I can’t tell you how when where or why? It’s as mysterious to me as it is to you. I know many of my poems need to beaten into lyrical form and content. This has to be one of the toughest roads I’ve ever embarked upon.

Who am I to say I can sing a song. Yet as you tenderly described yes I could sing along with the Moody Blues and other groups that deeply inspired me. Since Rod Serling is my hero. I loved the complex and mystical in songs and lyrics. When I was barely twenty the driver for the Moody Blues by the name of Mac De Priest came to my father’s place of business and said, “I would like you to meet someone?” Hmmmm the chances of this happening are odds of seven billion to one. Fate destiny or what? You tell me. Justin Hayward had a song you might remember “Question” … In that song he sings “I’m looking for a miracle in my life” well that line reverberated in my mind. As you know timing in life is everything. When Mac De Priest asked me to meet Justin Hayward, I was home on Thanksgiving Break from Duke University in NC. And I just happened to have a three volume set of “ The Course In Miracles” thinking on my toes I asked Mac if he would give this to Justin for the mere fact that the books described miracles and illusions and they seemed very much in synchronicity with the Moody Blues. I never expected to ever hear from the Moody Blues this was given as a gift with no strings attached.

So I went on with my life and then 8 years later a talented and gifted songwriter by the name of RAM started writing songs to me. As I said at the time I was of sound mind and body. Lol lol lol … He just made me feel all over. What can I say? This is a true-life experience. Even the best in the world that have read the lyrics from RAM stated oh this is the Moody Blues? But then I never showed them the address in the book RAM sent me which is MPL 1 Soho Square London W1. It stated “This book is the greatest gift of my life and with great love I give this book to you. It will change your life Happy Birthday RAM.”

I was too young to even know what the initials MPL stood for and I plead extreme ignorance for I had no idea what or where was 1 Soho Square London W1? I assumed that someone like Justin could have known Paul McCartney and maybe Paul gave this as a gift to Justin. And somehow through Ram the book came to me. Am I confusing you? Because I still am confused myself in the larger scheme of things? There is a rhyme and reason for the mystery. If I had really known who was writing to me I would have been intimated to say anything. I would have given up before I even tried? For me it was the best not to know whom I was actually writing 2. But as you get older you realize that we are all the same. Beyond the game of fortune or fame.

It was sort of like being in the twilight zone for me? Maybe in retrospect it does not matter who the messenger remains just that the message was delivered?
Isn’t life strange? When themes naturally reoccur in your life. At least I stop to look at them deeply. Who knows the reason why Mac De Priest desired me to meet Justin? He just did. Even the best in the world said these lyrics are penned in the style of the Moody Blues. Ok I plead extreme ignorance? This is not my field of expertise. How could I know who is who? So I relied on experts to tell me. Wrong or Right? You tell me I really don’t know anymore? Or maybe in the grand scheme of things this is the way it’s meant to be one eternal mystery. Thank you RJ I will continue to Penn love songs as inspired. Thank you for seeing the love in me and lifting me higher. I welcome and embrace you. Feel free to come over anytime! For life is too short to close the door on love and others who would enjoy being your friend. I know we all have our own lives and god knows it’s hard enough to make a living and raise a family. But we all do the best we can with the cards at hand. Namaste Blessed Be. All the best to you and yours, Sharron.

    Rock & Roll

Lyrics are a very special form of poetry. Mainly, in that they are only part of the composition. They are the musical score for a particular instrument - the voice. In writing and reading lyrics I like to listen to the sounds of the score as well as read for the meaning. You have a nice development of tone in this piece. I might have looked for a little more repetition, a chorus might tie things up just a little tighter, but the melody is there never the less.

I, first of all need to admit, that it has been quite a while since I dusted off my 'To Our Children's Children's Children' album and quite a while since I last saw the Moody Blues in concert, but they do a very good job of 'getting away with' some very complex lyrics based on the strength of their accompanying music. Complex lyrics, and intricate music were the hallmarks of the entire prog-rock movement and the reason my own lyrical roots are there. Although we do need to admit that the prog-rock that actually became popular was more of the simpler stuff that followed the rules like 'Knights in White Satin' or 'Conquistador' with slicker bridges and resonating choruses, it is great to see that not everyone believes that lyrics needs to to be a hand full of lines repeated ad nausium and that meaning and sound progression are still important in writing lyrics. A friend of mine, once wrote me that great poetry and great lyrics are not the same, that you cant write both. I am pretty sure I don't agree, I might rather add that lyrics are a special class of poetry that needs to follow musical rules as well as grammatical. But all else aside, I enjoyed your lyric and the memories of 6th row stage right singing along with the Moody Blues that your unearthed from the archives of my tired mind.

There is probably no more lucrative form of poetry than lyrics, and just as likely no more difficult form to do well. Yet, they are likely to get the least recognition on a poetry site. So my compliments for writing and posting yours. Keep up the good work! Have had little time of late to write, much less read, but I do look forward to browsing further. Thanks for having me over.

    Peace,

    ~RJ~

Oh Benji, you can pray for us
    In your tender gentle touch
For in love we all laugh and cry
    As time goes by
We met very young and yet this divine love has never left my heart
Once in a lifetime arrives true love
This is a love sent from heaven above
And the letters say he is beside me
Yet, why do I feel so alone?
So if this poems is jaw breaking I am smiling
Hidden love is so difficult to understand
So, give your love to all of life
As you sing with the heavenly sirens
And be one within the power of the sun

THANK YOU tobu, I believe the song is very cool 2!
    So, I agree with you.
Imagine if we all can be what we're meant to be
I love this song it is one in my minds eye as time goes by
    Within total love comprised
This is a song where rhyme patterns are INTERMIXED!

    On Rhyming Patterns
The words that rhyme to each other can occur consequently at the end of every line for instance. During a poem or lyric, the occurrences can be placed in such a manner that there evolves a certain pattern, which usually is referred to by difficult names used in literature or (easier) by giving these patterns names like: a-a-b-b, a-b-c-b and so on.

Patterns are very important but on the other hand one of the things in rhyme which are less tied up to those general ancient rules. Is there are so many patterns that in fact any pattern will do. Because of this, almost everybody has an opinion on this part of writing lyrics. Just use the pattern you like best; you can never please everybody. However, be sure to use it well.

I really like this poem. The change of the rhyme scheme from the first line to the rest kind of threw me off, though. But otherwise, its an awesome poem. My favorite lines are:
If you don’t like your script
    The pages can be ripped
And you can rewrite your life

    Very cool.
