The Simple Things

A candle burning with blue flame

The sound of a loved one’s name

Deep purples in the evening sky

A slice of mom’s hot apple pie

A breeze that brings the sent of grass

White wine sipped from a crystal glass

Cold, crisp air on an autumn night

The awesome sight of a flock in flight

New York in the fall with its rainbow of leaves

A warm cozy sweatshirt with really long sleeves

The smile from a stranger just passing by

A phone call from a friend just to say “hi”

Rocky Road Ice cream topped with hot fudge and whipped cream

Waking up and remembering that beautiful dream

Taking the time to just be alone

A wagging tail when you come home

A warm sunny day in the month of November

The smile from a child on the 25th of December

Yes, all the beauty that life does bring
Lies within the simple things.

Amen, its just so hard sometimes to realize the simple things in life and appreciate them. this is a nice reflection upon that. your poem brought to me a lot of smiles and beautiful memories.
New York in the fall with its rainbow of leaves
A warm cozy sweatshirt with really long sleeves
these especially and the child on the 25th of december. such fond memories. It reminds me of hiking through the mountains in the middle of autumn watching the leaves change color (which is one of my favorite things to do. any way i really enjoyed this piece. thank you for entering the contest and good luck

It's easy to get lost in the day to day hussle of life but when given the time to just stop and reflect, we can begin to uncover just how amazing this world we live in can be through the simple things that surround us...amazing insight filled with such wisdom!

"Wisdom is the simple things; for that's where we find God", how very true and I also believe it is where he finds us... at our very best. Thank you so much for your comment!

I think you covered the gamut of simple things, those priceless pleasures that make life worth living and they don't cost a dime! Life does not have to be the chaotic rat race it has become; at least, not in our own individual little worlds.

This is very well written and such a pleasure to read. Wisdom is the simple things; for that's where we find God.

    Good luck in the contest!

    Love and hugs

If it made you smile that's awesome, and if it made you think of your grandmother's house on a sunny Sunday afternoon, that's even better. :-). Thanks for your comment!

This was truly awesome. So many of the things you mentioned in this poem, are things that I really enjoy, and bring me happiness. Oh, how I love homemade apple pie, and the smell of the freshly cut grass... reminds me of my granmothers house on a sunny Sunday afternoon. This was a delightful read that made me smile. Your last line summed it up perfectly.
