I couldn’t remember the ratios of trigonometry.
Why do we need to know how the sides relate to angles?
I was told; it’s a cocktail of maths and geometry.
The exam question; A man sights a whale in difficulty
from a 100 metre height at 7 degree ahead
How far is the whale from the shoreline?
I'll evaluate it later, “let’s rescue her, before she’s dead.”
In the practical, we were asked;
Calculate the height of a tower,
measure the angle of shadow and distance.
We should ask the caretaker, that’ll save an hour.
I didn't understand the need of trigonometry
Why it was invented or when it began?
For me, the exam was One Hour And Half Of Agony
Because, I failed to understand Sin, Cos and Tan.

Author notes
I wasn't sure what to write about trigonometry... so I've just come up with this... lol
I’ve compromised with grammar for the sake of trigonometry;
If I'd used “An hour and a half”, that would change the concept, hence I’ve twisted the grammar to make the point… if you know trigonometry, you’d know what I’m getting at…
Sin - O ne H our
Cos - A nd H alf
Tan - O f A gony

Nice poem
And a good take on Trig, but not today's winner

Amazing
I liked Trigonometry.Dear its very useful as to calculate the height of an object at peak from ground without any need to climb.Anyways coming to the poem a well write.Beautiful is the flow and natural is the rhythem.I like it a lot. -
An old math teacher of mine used to use the acronym "Oh Hell Another Hour Of Algebra... those types of things are a great way of remembering things. But anyway!
Loved the poem, although you're talking to someone who actually does enjoy trig (I'm studying maths at college right now). I hated maths at the time that we started learning trig, wondering why the hell would we ever use it.... now I see why I would, but it's so simple it doesn't bother me if I do have to figure something out.
Though I will say- anything that makes me giggle is worthy of my applause, so here you go!

What an awesome write! That's great! And I love how you did the O H A H O A thing at the end. That was a great write. Totally deserving of first.

Karan I’m not very good in explaining, but I’ll try my best… thanx for your comments …
Trigonometry functions allow you to measure/calculate the lengths of sides and angles in a triangle.
The first words are functions ie (Sine, Cosine and Tangent). The last two words indicate the ratio of sides needed to calculate the function;
Sine is opposite/hypotenuse
Cosine is adjacent/hypotenuse
Tangent is opposite/adjacent
To remember the trigonometry functions, you can derive your own memory aid like I’ve done on this (Sine - One Hour) (Cosine- And Half) (Tangent - Of Agony)…
Trigonometry was very painful for me… lol… Hope it’s clear now…

Nice going!!! keep up the good going!!!
Pl. let me know as to what exactly u mean bywith ur authors comment. I didnt like maths myself either. All ur lines r good and funny!!!
Gre8t going!!! -
lol, I absolutely despise math, so I relate to you on all points here!
I never came to trigonometry level as I got all confuzzled just learning algebra! Yes, after all those classes and my brain is completely fried from trying to figure out those damn formulas! Who the hell invented algebra and trig anyway? I think the world would be much better without it anyway...and you shouldn't be forced to take it unless you are learning architecture or something!
Bleh!
I absolutely adore this poem...it gave me a hearty laugh, which I needed in the shape I was in!
I am going to add this to bookmarks!
Many blessings,

lost faith, I'm glad you liked it...thanx

Oh this was great! I only really asked for something to remember it by...but you've come up with a poem too! I think the way you have changed the grammer was unavoidable, it was really great though! Yep; and funny! Thanks for entering x

Ooooo oh ho ho this one really strikes a chord for me tonight Mina!!!! I just finished re-enrolling and signing up for courses at College in January...am going to work on a Double Major of LPN and Med Lab Tech...and sadly I s*ck at Math which means I got to take the lovely old Algebra, Calc and Triggy all ove again...Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! This was really cute and whimsical...a pleasure and treasure of fun to read!
Good Luck in the contest!

I really can't go along with numbers, I don't like them, specially when they are shown in red (bank). I always liked history, biology, geography but maths, nah, nothing for me.
I really enjoyed your poem and the part about the whale

Mari

this is a funny poem about maths even i dont like maths much but as far as remember i think trigonometry was better than other numerical methods portion of maths.best of luck with contest and i wish u get a cup this thime and i'll take it from you and use it to decorate on my page lol!

Way funny!
I was pretty good at this when I graduated high school, but it's been a long time since I had any use for it. Of course, there are some poor souls like mathematicians, astronomers and engineers who need to remember.
I love the humour in this poem, you have spoken for me!

I am horrible at math, I laughed a few times throughout this poem, I think Mainly because I don't understand trig and I just push the sin, cos, and tan buttons to see what kind of outrageously ridiculous number i can come up w/ so I am w/ rikki, I dun understand the last stanza...boy, I wish I knew trig.
, Lol I'm jk I like being dumb.....I think....maybe I'm too dumb to know for sure.

Well, I can't say I understood the last stanza, or the author comment, but it was kinda funny anyway. I liked the third stanza the best, what with "that'll save us an hour". Good luck with trig, anyway. Math is my worst subject, so I know how it is.
