pieces

we are broken, take a piece.
no real friends:
and the world spins around
our still ears,
we are caught and carried by the worlds wind.
even the stoners outside the
public toilets
know where they are,
but we, we, we are everywhere
and no where.
everyone has a piece of us.
we are drifters,
we slip into moody reveries,
we pretend
pretend
pretending is a favourite pastime of ours.
of course we aren't
pushed to the edges of the group,
of course we aren't ignored.
but we are broken, we lie
shattered on the dirty concrete,
we know too much,
we love too little.
we have hard hearts.
we are stubborn.
we bear grudges,
we are tense,
pained,
lonely.

in our pieces,
we are alone,
but together we become
sisters, and the world looks
on in envy.
