Summertime (first poem)

Missing image
I love to watch the little critters
out in my back yard,
munching on the bird seed
and bread that's gotten hard.

The blue jays and the cardinals,
the robins and the doves,
the sparrows and the chickadees
are birds this watcher loves.

I also love the rabbits,
some big and some so small,
playful chipmunks having fun,
squirrels so proud and tall.

My back yard's like Disneyland!
I wonder at the sight
of fireflies that light my world
with their enchanting flight.

Can't forget the crickets,
whose cheerful, chirping sound
comforts me and soothes me
as I lie upon the ground..

Gazing up beyond the trees
at twinkling stars above...
happy that it's summertime,
the season that I love!

Thank you for the Anniversary wish dear sister. I was pleasently welcomed to AP by you, and many other greats when I first came here. It is my pleasure to read your very first poem posted here. This is a refreshing poem, filled with the joys of nature. All too often we tend to look past these gifts from God. You have made us stop for the moment, and embrace the beauty. I am a bird lover. Your poem paints a gorgeous picture for all readers.

Thank you for this lovely entry and I wish you the best in the challenge.

    Much Love Always ♥

It seems that I have read this one before because I loved the line, and still remember; "the sparrows, and chickadees, and birds this watcher loves". It is still beautiful and eloquent for a first rendering on this site. Good luck with the contest.

    Much Love,
    Renee

Your mind isn't playing tricks on you, Damon. The poem you read the first time was "Summer Serenade", the first poem I posted at AP. You did comment after you read it! I reposted it and gave it a new name for the newer members of AP to read. Thank you for reading and commenting on both of them!

I thought that I had already commented on this one; I remember reading it several days ago--probably about two weeks. I don't know why I didn't comment, but evidently I didn't. I truly like Summer, but my favorite season is probably Spring or Autumn. In the spring everything is coming out all new and fresh, and in the fall the leaves are changing, which makes everything so pretty. I am kind of partial to winter too, because I sure do like it when the snow falls. Summer I like except for July and August when it is almost to hot to even bother about living. Every season has its good and bad points. This poem about summer was/is wonderful. I truly enjoyed reading it. I will be back soon to read more.

Thank you, Tina, Artis, Pauline and ParadoxesDream! To create this heaven in my backyard, all it took was birdseed, bread and love! Nature took care of the rest!

Thanks to everyone who commented on this poem. For three years, we have also been graced with visits from 3 ducks. Kind of strange that the 3 of them travel together, maybe one of them is the grown child of the other two. I noticed that one always stands guard while the other two eat. (Can't be too careful!)

Citrus, that song 'Summertime And The Living Is Easy' was going through my mind when I was posting this poem. We've been having a heat wave (temps. in the high 90's, heat index 103). Living ain't easy, that's for sure! Tell you what...If you come to visit, you can watch my menagerie for free! :o)
