The Wishing Well

One winter morning I went walking
deep within the evergreen trees,
surrounded by snow covered meadows,
winter's white blanket covered leas.

Among the yews and tall junipers,
I happened upon a wishing well,
something was glistening on top,
it was a little silver bell.

It was dangling on a little rope,
there was a sign above the bell,
It said I could make three wishes
if I threw three coins into the well.

My first wish was for a bag of gold,
gold to spend upon myself,
then I heard this tiny wee voice,
out of the well came a little elf.

He said you must not wish for anything,
that you want just for you,
if you do, you will be cursed,
your wishes will not come true.

I did not listen, my last two wishes,
the two coins went into the well,
I wished for two more bags of gold,
I slipped and fell down into hell.

    Witty and Loved it!!!!

I was expecting a bit of a different thing in keeping with the wishing well thing, but found myself smiling as I read this wonderfully expressive piece. It brings out the thought of 'what, indeed, do we really wish for' and I loved how in the last two stanza's you presented the package of the all too often end result. Very effective usage and it flowed with much grace. Bless you. rose

I loved the imagery in this poem.
I felt that there was kind of a message in this poem.
Well, God doesn't want us to be greedy, he wants us to help us.
And being greedy won't get you too far with God.
This was a great poem and I really liked it.
    Keep up the great work.
love, your ap daughter, Marissa rae

I loved the Goonies movie and remember it well. Not sure what that might say about me. I also enjoy your writing ma'am. I would read you twice and thrice if I had more time. I admire your talent.
