The Horror of Van Gogh

Missing image
""""""""""""

The red sky
and its harsh rays
of yellow light,
blinding to the eye,
send me screaming in terror
of the orb
that follows me
wherever I run.

The sky runs blood,
paint melting down
smeared into the earth
creating blazing orange corn
growing in the sun.

Storms approaching
change
everything beneath.
Roaring panthers gather,
lapping up the sun and
bloody sky.

But flying overhead
the crows stalk me now
beating righteous wings,
watching every move,
beaks sharpened,
feet clawed to grab my fate
from the mouth of
God.

The crows are here,
they peck and gouge,
eating my face as they dive.
The crows...
The crows
devour from
the blackened sky.

Author notes

Van Gogh went mad in the fields while painting...He would have what was described as "fits." No one knows for sure if it was schizophrenia or just a form of epilepsy that made the people think he was mad. I think he was mentally ill.
The painting is by Van Gogh.

He cut off his ear, so yeah, I think he was a bit ill. Just an opinion tho, a good piece, tho with spaces (without spaces, don't know if you get that).

    A good one here.

Beautiful poem about a fascinating painter. I've always liked these words from the song 'Starry, Starry Night'...I could have told you, Vincent, this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you.' I read his biography and recently saw a movie that was a fantasy about him coming back to life and marveling at the millions of dollars people are now paying for his paintings.

Yes, I have seen the films. Have you read 'Lust For Life' by Irving Stone? (I think he wrote it.) It is fabulous.

Thank you JG. Van Gogh is one of my favorites. I went to a traveling exhibit of just his work once and was speechless. His agony was there in thick ropes of paint slathered and tossed in the sway of madness.

bold and sweeping darlin'! really liked this, full of some great lines, especially:
    The sky runs blood,
    paint melting down
    smeared into the earth
    creating blazing orange corn
    growing in the fields

shows a real appreciation of art, well done!

What an ode (of sorts) to the insanity that is Van Gogh, your words as vivid as the works I adore from the ear-slicing madman, your crows still cawing and pecking at me. Excellent!

Deep stuff. Very good imagery you use. I have always been fascinated by 'A Field Of Corn' Your verses go well with it.

This painting is actually only a half of a painting. I just don't know how to get quality and size, so I just cropped it.

Much was not known, except for the fact he did suffer from Paranoia... That is one of the symtoms of schizophrenia, but true it is not conclusive...
You did an excellent job of painting his mental anguish!!!!
