Nightime Wonders

Darkness falls like cold black shield,
taking away the light of day.
The setting sun tries to hang on,
it holds the rising moon at bay.

Moon comes over the dark horizon,
moonbeams streak in the open sky.
Dark shadows appear all around me,
Moonlight reflects within my eyes.

Stars start to twinkle and shine,
like diamonds drifting in the sky.
Streaks that look like lightning,
glowing shooting stars pass by.

Night is filled with such wonders,
constellations in spectacular show.
Search for Orion and the Milky Way,
North Star shines the way  to go.

Saturn spinning with all it's rings,
Jupiter's many moons circle around.
Venus shines way beyond the moon,
another star streams to the ground.

night is full of many beautiful wonders,
they light up the sky with sparkling gold,
all the stars, the moon and planets,
create a universe of stories yet untold.

Thank you so much for the wonderful comment. It is appreciated. I do enjoy writing about the heavens. It made me think alittle too. It's been so long since science class, I was trying to remember which planets have rings and which had moons. Take care, Sandy Ta

I love it when I read a great poem about a simply subject matter. Okay, so the wonders of the sky and universe aren't exactly simple, but in comparison to the emotions of the human heart I have to wonder. Anyway. Wonderful writing. I think you did the subject a great justice with your beautiful words.

Oh Sandy, this is Awsome, I love it.
You gave the reader the sights of the night sky, which was beautiful.
I love to see a full moon on a clear night, with millions of of stars shining way above. I have been lucky enough to have seen what I think is the best night sky, in Kenya.
    Good luck in the contest
    Take care because I care
    Elaine
