Today as we remember,
the day terrorism shook our world
It still brings a tear to my eyes.
The safety I once knew is no more.
No doubt on that tragic day,
a war was declared upon our land.
Pressures fell on our leaders to step forth
Revenge was our demand.

Not a big fan of George W.,
and I do question this war
that has divided us as a nation,
leaving some lost and fore-lorn.
But I sometimes feel we have forgotten
the unity we had on that savage day.
And if we do not again unite,
then the terrorist have had their way.

Author notes
I know this ain't the greatest compared to others I've read. But I was inspired to write it while watching a show on 9/11, and I thought of the unity of that day compared to what it is today. I think one of the things the terroists wanted most was to divide this nation, and sometimes I think they have. Jacki

Dear Jacki,
I agree with Touchof1der. You have absolutely no reason to be apologetic about this poem which is not only heartfelt but expresses what you want to say with great clarity.
Subject and Message are the first two prerequisites of a good poem and you have chosen the first appropriately and addressed the second admirably. I applaud this as a good write.
Love and hugs, XXX Hugh. -
Just wanting you to know you are a awesome writer and to keep up the great work.. I am proud of you for being strong.. Good luck in life...

Beautiful write sis full of truth and emotion.I wish all could remember that day and the way we all came together as one and stop fighting over this war.War....sad fact of life. Our nations and histories were built on it and as a person that faces war and its machines everyday in my life as a military wife, I say to those who bash our leader and bash our military.....as in religion it does not exist or function without faith.Lose faith in our leader and you lose faith in the greatness thnat is America.I also am not fond of Bush, but see in the face of extreme circumstances he did what most in our country called for at THAT time. Now winds of change have blown and some say it is wrong.I agree....war is wrong, but also needed at times. How else will we learn from our mistakes if we never make them.
Great write sis.Fabulous flow and well worded and thought out.You are such a poetess.I bow to you

your view is very valid and everyone should sit up and take notice of your wise words
, if the world was united` the whole planet would be a safer and happier place to live
.
our very own UK ? is NOT what it says
.. sadly our so-called " United Kingdom " is far from being United
.
if we all worked together and helped each other a little more` their would be very few homeless or starving people in the UK,
sadly` I see homeless people every day and I find it sad to think that nobody really cares anymore.
it is also very sad to think that it took a day like 9/11 to bring the world together again
.
thank you for sharing
and
happy scribbling

Dear Jacki,
I liked the poem a lot and I think it came out like gang-busters on what this country is about.
A lot of people think that we have taken self-defense too far. But when I think that we managed to put one of the world's worst dictators in prison it is gratifying. It wasn't just us either. Wasn't it he who launched the scud missles at Isreal and they landed in rural neighborhoods, unprovoked mind you!
And when he saw what the terrorists did to NYC he offered to compensate their families to the tune of $25,000 per.(x19)
I would call that guilty after the fact.
When I was a kid of about 13 years old, I wrote a letter to, and received one from, the White House. More precisely from the then president Dwight Eisenhower.
It was pretty much a form letter and had a photo and all, but I remember an excerpt from it in essence.
He said that the hardest thing he'd ever had to do was the thing he thought best, despite what other well intentioned people thought.Given the fact that he was the supreme allied commander in Europe this must have happened quite often.
I haven't spoken with anyone, pro or con, who doesn't hope that this thing is over soon.
Remember, the last thing a bully wants to hear is "C'mon
you want a piece of this". I hope they are listening!
Thanks for your comments on My Family too!
Somebody did the poem up with all the baby pictures of everybody, and there is a framed My Family in every home.
Take care, and Regards..................John -
Excuse me Sweetheart... I beg to differ here! You have written this from that big, beautiful heart of your's and I think you have done a fabulous job and I won't have you thinking otherwise.

Excellent
It is amazing how resiliant a people can be. After that terrible day on September 11th I remember thinking how brave all of America was in their total support to one another. Americans are a strong people with a strong sense of pride and togetherness. This will gather them back to the core of their very being. I salute this poem for being a superb tribute and I also salute the Country for it's stand against terrorism.

Although I don't agree with you about Bush, the rest I agree with which is the most important, it was such a terrible tragedy- one I can barely describe in words and also one which saw the deaths of a lot of people's rose-tinted views of the world, it showed man could be evil like nothing had since the concentration camps. Such a sad poem, but also well written- keep writing because this was well written and poignant.

I know what you mean. I remembered how our school raised over $4,000 by that Friday, but now, I don't think that would happen. It just seems like we lost the unity just as quickly as we gain it.

this was a wonderful poem. it was fantastic. this was a sad day when many people lost their loved ones and friends. i remember i was in 5th grade when this happened. alot of parents picked up their kids from. i still feel bad that everyone lost everything that they did. but we can all pull together and get through this together, keep up the great work.

I liked this.....even though I am for George W. I just feel that a lot of the time people want things their way and they start fighting...they can't handle other people's opinions. Living in America means to have freedom so I believe that everyone has right to speak their mind even if someone else doesn't agree they should respect their fellow man. It's true though and very sad that when we don't have unity the terrorists win. Anyhoo great write.

this is a fantastic piece. its sad to think so many americans even with that day still dont understand. they can put up their flags and say theyre proud but they dont really get it until it actually hits them. i cant stand false patriotism. you did a fantastic job pulling the emotion you wanted to get across in this poem. thanks for sharing. keep up the great work. ~Lf GO USA!!

wowie..this is spectacular. Such a tragic day. I remember exactly what i was doing too. Remember the feeling in the air? The way we were united again for just a litte while. How beautiful it was. Automobiles wearing stickers everywhere. I felt it. With so many friends at the time in the army I was afraid for them. Afraid for everybody. The last stanza definitely points out how we have forgotten how important it is to keep that unity(i feel). This is very nicely written Jacki . I chuckled at the part about not a big fan of W. I have to agree with you there. GREAT GREAT WRITING.
