A Parent's Love

My father and mother both had unconditional love,
I began  feeling it the day of my birth,
all my life their love never wavered,
throughout their lifetime here on Earth.

As a young child I was always taking tantrums
I would hold my breath and turn blue,
no matter how much I kicked and screamed,
there love would come shining through.

Then there were the terrible teenage years,
I hated myself and and what I would do,
no matter what trouble I would cause them,
once again,my parents love would pull me through.

No matter what, I could count on mom and dad,
their love was always close by my side,
even when they disliked the man I chose to marry,
they stood right there by my side.

You cannot love someone only in the good times,
because many bad times in life will come along,
unconditional love is a cherished memory,
when loved by your parents even though you do wrong.

Thank you so very much for the wonderful comment. I was very fortunate to have wonderful parents especially my dad. I guess girls are always closer to their dad growing up. My parents are no longer alive but I have many wonderful memories. I wrote a poem to my dad last month titled, Looking Up To Heaven. The one verse describes him most of all.

If all the world was like my father,
there would be no need for war,
all the children would be loved and wanted,
all their pain and sorrow would be no more.

    Take careand love , Sandy

    Exquisite

Parental love is a wonderful thing. Like you say, no matter what we do, they still love us and still stand by us. But not all children are this lucky. There are bad eggs too, parents who abuse children, hate them, treat them as they should not be treated.

You are lucky to have such wonderful parents and truly such love is unconditional. They expect nothing from the children in return for their love.

    Very well said. Thank you.
