The love of a soldier

A proud servant of our country
Someone honored and adored
Sent to you wingless
From our watcher up above

Know while he's not with you
You're constantly on his mind
For his mind is set on your image
His tender heart full of your love

While alone on those empty seas
He can look up into the clear night
Gaze at the stars in wonder
And know you're under those exact same stars

At that same time you should look up
Realize how large our universe is
And that he's not too far away
Only a breath from your body

While your touches might not be felt
You've bonded in mind
You're connected by spirit
And your souls have united as one

He might be fighting a war overseas
But you two are fighting a much stronger war
One of distance, love and loyalty
Something many wouldn't dream of doing

Yet you've found something in him others haven't
A love strong enough to last the distance
One that will surpass all boundaries
One that defeats any war of the body, heart, or mind

So as he's out there protecting my own
As he's out there fighting for all of our freedom
Let your breast fill with pride
For you love a soldier

And I tell you, my dear
It takes a heck of a woman
To be loyal, to love
And to serve a soldier

Good luck

    Sincerely beautiful!

This is wonderful, you have so thoughtfully touched on many of the issues so many people (soldiers and their families) are dealing right now.

I love the part about being alone on empty seas, it reminds me of the song somewhere out there.

The part about the war overseas and on the home front is excellent. I can't imagine how hard it must be to have someone you love be so far away from you, and what many don't realize is that many of these soldiers don't return to their families the same person they left as. The war you speak of doesn't end necessarily when the president calls back the troops.

Excellent call on so many issues!!! Great job!

    Daughter
I support our troops. I don't support this war.
Well done in spite of the fact that I don't think this war is about freedom like some previous but rather freedom for the rich to have their oil stocks go up.

    Well done!

Mendee, you really are a talented writer... this is beautiful writing. This is so true, our soldiers fight for this country with pride and honor... and so do the loved ones left at home-- to love, support and encourage our troops.

    I'm impressed!

    Good luck in this contest!

    Regards,

    Serenem~Melinda

Oh Mendee this was so sweet hon, I actually have a cross stitch upstair's that reads "though distance divides Love abides" and this fit it perfectly. Thank you for writing this for me a perfect stranger to you as well as your sweet note last night, it means a lot when people truly see the honor in being a Army Wife, and honestly admire my Husband. Be Safe , and Take Care, Catressa

I love the ending on this. Mainly because people who love the soilder rarely get any recognition for their pain and suffering and their worry while their loved ones are off at work. It DOES take great strength to stick through that. Bravo.

Hey, I also entered this contest but I must say, your words were great. You took simplicity to a new level here, incorporating the present situation of Catressa into your poem and that was wonderful. My approach was a little different. I focused more on him coming home. You did a brilliant job with this and I know she will get much peace in reading this when she is alone. Brilliant work.

This is beautiful just as it is mendee. For something you have written from the top of your head, you have penned some incredibly wonderful sentiments here for my sweet friend, Catressa. I think you have done a fine job! Thank you for taking the time and effort to submit something. I am sure this will be a great comfort to her as she passes the lonely hours away from her beloved. Good luck in the contest!
