What Is The Purpose, Where Is The Sense

Uncharted lands and sands
Unknown faces and places
Smiles once for your occupation now turn to frowns
Peoples decimated and their villages burned to the ground

Presidential and diplomatic eyes here are sparkling red, white and blue lies
All the while our fathers, sons and daughters are sent to do battle across foreign waters
Upheaval, turmoil and ultimately war a profit gaining stately race and show
So many left behind here stateside wondering why it was all of you and not the bureaucrats who did go

Protections at home for the weak left to forces behind dwindled meek
Terrorist threats to the homeland now coming daily hand in hand
Smiles here hide not well the growing signs of gnawing fears
In the distance one need not strain to hear another family's falling tears

I love you all our fighting common countrymen, yes a love proud till the very end
I also worry about you all as for our rights you stand, fight and perhaps fall
It saddens me deeply to think that any one of you could one day be my son or daughter
My heart breaks alongside the hearts of your families, especially each wife and mother

In a kindred sort of way I am to you each a sister, mother and wife each day
You see for although I may not know you I pray each day for each and every one of you
It is with TRUE pride in what you do for your fellow common countrymen and even the president and diplomats with their false pretense
You see to me without the support of fellow common Americans behind you what then would be the purpose and where then would be the sense

Author notes

Even though I do NOT agree with or support our current President I DO SUPPORT, RESPECT AND LOVE OUR FELLOW FIGHTING COMMON COUNTRYMEN!!!!

'Tis not one of my best, BUT I hope this spur of moment piece makes sense and shows my support to our troops...BLESS THEM ALL!!!!

This is a really deep poem, the rhyming and stanzas are differnt and it makes it more interesting than if it was just in normal poem style. Its a bit long but tis worth the read. Good job!

    Well said

This has very complex emotions, fear for the safety of those at home, distrust of the leadership and its instruments, but also pride and support for those who are doing their jobs. I like the position of solidarity with servicemen and women and their families, that is human and lovely.
I agree that the lines would be better shorter, especially the ones with internal rhymes.

I think.. if there was more line breaks, it wouke it a better read for some people. The rule I usually at most I say make it at least 70 character. It is still long, but it gets it across. Maybe it could be more concise in each line. In my opinion, I disagree with the war. I am going to leave it at that. Keep writing.

Wow... This really was touching. There was real emotion here, "TRUE pride" =) Bah... i suck at expressing myself lol =/ But this was really inspiring... Not only to my writing but also my feelings towards helping fellow country men and women. Great breath of fresh air here, thanks Nikki =)
