Finding God

Though my faith is brand new, it is not fragile,
God has blessed me, my belief in Him is very strong,
for so long my life was full of turmoil and unhappiness,
that all changed when the Good Lord came along.

I met the Lord one night as I was crying,
I spent so many years searching to find His love,
my tears were overwhelming all through the night,
God was lifting all my burdens to Heaven above.

I cried for days as God cleansed my soul,
there were so many years of heartache and sin,
God never left my side for one moment,
I prayed for my new life with God to begin.

The first few days were overwhelming and fearful,
what was this feeling I felt within,
I had never known such peace and love in my life,
I had won the final battle, Satan did not win.

God came into my heart and filled my life with joy,
each day He brings more wonder then the day before,
my heart is overflowing with His sweet love,
every since that night I opened up God's door.

every since that night I opened up God's door.

...this "opening a door" metaphor is quite powerful and I've seen it several times in other poems...but it's never used in quite the same way. i love the personal feel of this poem...i've read a couple of Christian-oriented poems so far...but each one reads as if it's being addressed to me, personally. i love that warmth, that feel that you truly are genuinely in love with your religion, you are devoted to it, and you only want to promote it, to share it, to let others open up their hearts. and i feel like in each of these poems, i get all these different stories...they are all so unique and so powerful. thank you for your inspiring poem...thank you for entering my contest. best of luck! ~EL d

You're right. Brand new faith is not fragile. Scripture says faith is not of ourselves but a gift of God. I don't believe He gives fragile gifts. I remember much the same feeling you describe when it pleased God to reveal His Son to me 26 years ago. Welcome to reality.

Thank you so much for letting me know you cried for days too. My dear friend would cry with me and kept praying for me over the phone. He lives in Ohio. He still calls and prays with me. God has blessed me with this kind young man. Thank you for sharing with me. I don't feel so alone. Take care, Sandy
