**Broken Telephone

~Broken Telephone~

“Hello?”
“Hey, Megan. This is Dianne.”
“Finally! I’ve been trying to reach you for days!”
“I know, I’m sorry.”
“You missed so much crap in class!”
“Can you fill me in at all?”
“You expect me to? Hello, have you like forgotten my rep or something? I am like leader of the people that get F’s.”
“Good point. Do you know anyone who – ”
“Hold up a sec. Someone’s on the other line.”
“All right.”

“Hello?”
“Hey babe.”
“Lucas!”
“Ouch. You don’t have to squeal quite so loud…”
“Why didn’t you call?”
“I just did!”
“Yeah but why didn’t you call earlier?”
“…I was busy.”
“Doing what?”
“Don’t get all suspicious on me! I wasn’t fooling around.”
“Yeah, well, you do have your rep you know…”
“You’re the only one for me, Megan.”
“Ooh, you make me go all quivery when you say my name like that!”
“Quivery…is that a word?”
“Yes! Stop kidding around.”
“What would you have me do?”
“You really want to know?”
“Hmm, I think I like that wicked tone of voice.”
“Good, because it’s not going away…”
“Do your evil witch laugh.”
“Aw come on Luke!”
“Come on, you know how I love it.”
“No fair; it’s my turn to tell you what to do.”
“And what would that be?”
“Come over right now.”
“Right now?”
“Yes, right now.”
“It’s 11 in the night.”
“Exactly.”
“I’m in boxers.”
“Even better.”
“Oh! I get it…”
“Boys!”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“It means you guys are so clueless!”
“We are not!”
“Are too!”
“Ok fine, but can I still come over?”
“I’ll have to think about it…”
“How long?”
“Give me 5 minutes.”
“Are you serious?…Hello? You’re not serious… well fine. 5 minutes.”

“Hello, Dianne?”
“Yeah I’m here. What took you so long?”
“Oh just some stuff…”
“I know that voice! You’re all breathy. Who’ve you been talking to?”
“Guess.”
“Well it’s either Mitch, Lucas, Josh, or Christian.”
“Why does it have to be one of those?”
“Well...you haven’t gone back to the others have you? I mean Ralph was such a dumb jock. And Les? Ok, he really was a les…if you know what I mean.”
“Don’t go insulting them!”
“Fine whatever.”
“So why did you miss so much school?”
“Why do you think?”
“Don’t get all snippy on me…I just don’t get it. Why don’t you tell your parents?”
“Yeah, like they’d believe me! You should hear them: ‘Why can’t you be more like Fred?’ ‘Fred has friends.’ ‘Fred has grades.’ ‘Fred is our perfect son and you are our mistake!’”
“Oh quit exaggerating.”
“Well you can’t talk! You have a perfect family.”
“I do not! My mom doesn’t even let me date. Quit laughing!”
“Well you’re like the one girl in school who’s seen every guy with his pants down.”
“I haven’t seen every guy, and not everyone with his pants down.”
“Yeah sure.”
“Quit teasing; that’s my job. Seriously though, you should tell your parents that ‘perfect Fred’ is the one smoking weed.”
“Oh yeah; I can see you going to your mom and trying to convince her why you should be allowed to date.”
“Point taken.”
“See?”
“Yeah, parents. They’re impossible.”
“So…who was it?”
“What- ? Oh! You have to guess.”
“Ok, if I had to guess…umm…Lucas.”
“You cheated.”
“How could I cheat? Aha! I knew it! I was right!”
“Yes you’re right.”
“Mmm…he is a hottie.”
“Hey that’s my man!”
“Oh please. If I said any guy in the school was hot, you could say ‘he’s my man’. It doesn’t count anymore.”
“I really like Luke though.”
“Yeah but you really, really like Mitch. And you really, really like Christian, not to mention Josh…hey if you go after someone else, can I have Josh?”
“No!”
“Why not?”
“Well what if I want to come back?”
“I know you can’t see, but I’m sticking my tongue out at you right now.”
“Oh that hurts. Really – Oh my God!”
“What?”
“I told him I’d talk to him in 5 minutes.”
“So? It’s only been like 2.”
“That’s not the point!”
“You’re really weird.”
“Yeah. Hold up.”

“Took you long enough!”
“Sorry, love.”
“So can I come over?”
“Hurry your ass down here.”

“Hey Dianne?”
“Let me guess. You and loverboy are going to spend some time together.”
“Wrong. Loverboy is Christian’s nickname. I’m spending time with Mr. Chocolate…Lucas is absolutely delicious.”
“Do you mean that literally?”
“Are you sure you want to know the answer?”
“Hmm. No. I already feel like I’m on the verge of vomiting. I don’t need the added push.”
“Oh! He’s here. The door just rang. ‘k, I’m going now!”
“Later. Call me! I want details. Actually no not details. Just a general outline…hello? Meg?”

“Mmm.”
“Wow, nice kiss.”
“I’ve had practise.”
“Really! On whom?”
“No-one right now…hey!”
“What?”
“Don’t play innocent; I felt that.”
“Felt what?”
“Do it again, and I’ll tell you…”
“No.”
“No?”
“That’s right.”
“You’re saying no to me?”
“That’s right; about time someone teased you a bit…”
“Oh please. You’re going to tease – oh! Oh my…”
“Should I stop?”
“God no!”
“I think I’ll stop.”
“Lucas!”
“Stop whining.”
“My house, my rules.”
“What are you in, kindergarten? Don’t stick your tongue out at me.”
“Why not?”
“’Cause then I want to do this.”
“Mmm…hehe.”
“Stop laughing.”
“Mmph…haha.”
“We’re kissing and you’re laughing?”
“Sorry sweetie.”
“You haven’t stopped.”
“Ok, ok! Here.”
“That’s better.”
“No…this is better.”
“Oh my Go-jeez. You ARE experienced.”
“Aren’t I though?”
“I think I’ll leave the teasing to you…”
“That’s a good boy…”

“Megan?”
“Yeah?”
“How come your mom’s not home yet?”
“She’s gone all week. Some business trip.”
“You’re all alone?”
“Yeah. Well no…you’re here.”
“That tickles… Hey stop that! I’m being serious.”
“All right.”
“Don’t you ever get lonely?”
“Why do you ask?”
“I don’t know. I mean I’m from a large family. Two brothers, 3 sisters…both parents. Hey come on, I didn’t mean it like that.”
“They’re divorced.”
“Ok, I wasn’t implying anything.”
“What’s your point?”
“Well it’s just…how do you do it?”
“Do what?”
“Manage all alone?”
“It’s not that hard.”
“Yeah but-”
“Can we just make out?”
“No I want to talk to you.”
“First guy that didn’t want to make out with me…”
“Oh come on! You know I do. I’m just thinking with my other head for now.”
“Cute. Really.”
“I wasn’t trying.”
“Fine whatever. Let’s talk about your family for a while then. I hardly know them.”
“Yeah, you have to meet them one day.”
“I dunno…”
“They’ll love you.”
“That’s not it.”
“Then what is it?”
“It’s a really big deal…I mean a big step in a relationship. I’m not sure I want to do that yet…”
“You think 2 years isn’t enough?”
“It’s not that simple…I mean there’s my mom for one thing. She doesn’t even know you exist.”
“What?!”
“Well I’m not allowed to date…”
“Oh my God, you’re joking!”
“No joke.”
“But we…I mean…we did it.”
“I know.”
“That’s a little beyond dating, don’t you think?”
“Not so much. It’s just sex.”
“Just sex?”
“Look what do you want from me?”
“Nothing I – look there’s more to a relationship than all the physical stuff. I mean take my brother for instance. He’s head over heels for this girl. I’ve seen a picture of her, and I mean she’s not even all that good looking. But he says she’s got the coolest personality.”
“Thanks.”
“I didn’t mean that. Look, all I’m saying is that there’s more to you than all the physical stuff- hey what’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
“Then why are you crying?”
“I’ve never…I don’t know. I never thought about it like that. And I sort of wish…I wish you were my first…”
“You do?”
“Yeah…”
“Come here.”
“Thanks. Woah, ok, crushing me now.”
“Sorry.”
“So who’s the girl?”
“Who?”
“The one your brother is dating.”
“Oh he’s not dating her. He’s actually with another girl; but he refuses to say who.”
“He’s crushing on someone and he’s dating someone else?”
“Yeah…I know he’s a freak.”
“So who is she?”
“I told you I don’t know. He refuses – ”
“No the other one. The one he’s crushing on.”
“Why?”
“It’s gossip.”
“Hey! This is my brother’s personal life here…”
“You can tell me. I won’t tell anyone.”
“You just said it was gossip.”
“Yeah but it’s private gossip.”
“Private gossip? There’s an oxymoron for you…”
“I am not a moron.”
“No, I said oxymoron. It’s when someone says two words that are – ”
“– complete opposites. I know what it is; I just misheard you.”
“Ok.”
“So spill!”
“What an obstinate creature!”
“I resent that! I am a persistent, beautiful woman.”
“Did I say you weren’t?”
“Don’t twist your words.”
“I think you mean…mmm…ouch! What was that for?”
“Are you going to tell me or not?”
“Her name’s Dinah. I think. Dinah Charles – ouch! What was THAT for?”
“You…did you say Dianne Charles?”
“Yeah! That’s it. I knew it had a “d” and an “n”.”
“Oh my God! She’s my best friend! I have to tell her; she’s never dated anyone… what’s your brother’s name?”
“No! You’re not telling her.”
“Why not?”
“Because Christian will kill me.”
“Christian? That’s your brother’s name?”
“Oh shit he’s gonna…jeez are you ok? You look like you’ve swallowed some poison…Oh my God.”
“No. No! It’s not what you think!”
“Yes it is!”
“It’s not, I swear!”
“I didn’t sleep with him!”
“You know who he’s dating!”
“What?!”
“What?!”
“What are you talking about?”
“What are YOU talking about?”
“Ok…please don’t kill me for this”
“I’ll try not to keep my hands off you.”
“You know if you said that in a different tone, it would be very flirtatious…”
“Just say what you want to say.”
“Ok, but please hear me out!”
“Fine.”
“You’ve already made up your mind.”
“Don’t tell me what I have or haven’t done!”
“Well have you?”
“I’m just confused…I mean you have your rep you know.”
“Well so do you! Ok look… I don’t want to fight… um yeah I am the girl that was dating him.””
“Yeah I figured that much…”
“I stopped though!”
“Really? Did you forget to break up with him?”
“Well, I haven’t exactly officially…”
“You’re still with him?! Wait..and earlier today you were getting suspicious of me cheating on you?”
“Don’t scream so loud.”
“No one’s going to hear us anyways….did you sleep with him?”
“No!”
“Are you lying?”
“How am I supposed to answer that in a way that will make you believe me?”
“I don’t know…why do you date so many guys anyways?”
“I don’t know…am I forgiven then?”
“Only if you two officially break up with each other…The whole thing is maddening. I mean he doesn’t like you, and you don’t like him…”
“Well, duh! I had no idea you were brothers…”
“Wait! Does that mean that you would still date other guys who weren’t related to me behind my back?”
“Repeat that, I’m lost.”
“Never mind…you won’t date anyone else behind my back though will you?”
“’Course not…but let me tell you; this monogamy thing is new to me.”
“Evidently.”
“So why do you date so many guys?”
“I don’t know! Sex is good.”
“Is it?”
“Don’t look so pleased; I wasn’t just talking about you.”
“So you date for sex?”
“Don’t be so crude.”
“I’m crude?!”
“Very much so. You make me sound like some sort of whore.”
“Well your rep is that you sleep around. But I don’t care. I have you all to myself right now…Damn. Do you have to get that?”
“I’d better, it might be Mom calling.”
“Ok.”

“Hello?”
“Megan, hi.”
“Who is this?”
“This is Mitch.”
“What do you want? I’m sort of busy.”
“No need to be so hostile. I was wondering if I could come over.”
“Now?”
“Yes now.”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because. I said so.”
“Well when then?”
“I don’t know. Look I’ll talk to you later. Bye.”

“Who was that, honey?”
“It was Dianne.”
“What’d she want?”
“Nothing…I’ll tell you what I want though…”
“Mmm. Hey don’t stop now!”
“I’m the tease, remember- ah! Haha! That tickles! Cut it out.”
“All right.”
“Mmm…this is nice.”
“Yeah…I wonder…d’you think Dianne would like my brother?”

“Hello?”
“Hi…um Can I please speak to Joshua?”
“Sure, one sec. Who is this?”
“Uh Dianne. Dianne Charles…”
“Hello?”
“Hi, Josh.”
“Hi…you’re in my chem. Class, right?”
“Yeah! I uh…sit two seats down…”
“Right…what’s the occasion?”
“I’m sorry, did I wake you? I’m an early riser, and it’s 6 in the morning…”
“No, no. It’s all right. What’s going on?”
“Well, don’t take this the wrong way…I mean I’d do it in person but I’m a real chicken… um…would you like to go out sometime?”
“I’m flattered that you’re asking…”
“But…”
“I’m sorry. Look I’m working some stuff out right now.”
“If it’s got to do with Megan; it’s pretty pointless. There’s like 2, maybe 3 other guys who are higher up on her list than you.”
“Haha! No it has nothing to do with her. Or you, for that matter.”
“Wait, wait, wait. You’re using the old “It’s not you, it’s me” on me.”
“No! I’m completely serious. Look, I even broke up with Megan a while back.”
“What?!”
“What’s the big deal? I didn’t break her heart did I?”
“God no. It’s just…well usually Megan’s the heartbreaker.”
“All right so it all works out nicely: I dump her, she has no hard feelings, and neither do I.”
“And I’m not even in the picture.”
“Oh come on. I didn’t mean it like that. Really, there’s personal reasons for me not to date right now. I swear I’ll take you up on your offer as soon as I work things out.”
“Really? You mean that?”
“Cross my heart.”
“Wow! This is great!”
“Haha. You’re pretty funny.”
“Hmm, am I pretty and funny?”
“That too…ah I have to go. I’ll see you later.”
“Sure. Bye!”

“Hello?”

“Hello, is anyone there?”

“Wait, please don’t hang up! Why do you keep calling me?”
“I’m sorry.”
“Do I know you? Who is this?”
“I’m uh…I’m Christian. I’m Lucas’ brother…if – if you know him?”
“Yeah I do…wow you’re his brother?”
“Yeah…why?”
“Wait, wait, let me get this straight. Are you the same Christian who is dating Megan Beckett?”
“Yeah but…”
“Oh my God!”
“Look it doesn’t matter. I’ll probably break up with her soon.”
“Haha!”
“What’s so funny?”
“Nothing, it just seems that today, everyone’s breaking up with her.”
“What do you mean everyone?”
“Well, she used to date this guy named Josh, and he broke up with her, for some reason.”
“Wow, you sound happy about that.”
“Well...ok don’t tell anyone. I sort of like him…he told me that we could go out soon.”
“Oh. Oh I see.”
“Something wrong?”
“No. Not at all. Uh I have to go.”
“All right…wait, why did you call?”
“Nothing really. It’s not important.”
“Well it seemed like it. You’re the one that kept calling and hanging up, right?”
“Yeah, I’m sorry about that. I just…well look. I should go. Bye.”
“Wait! I – hello? Are you there? Guess not…”
“Are you on the phone again?”
“Not anymore, he hung up.”
“Ooh, wait till I tell Mom!”
“What are you 6?”
“No, what I am is smart. Mom’s got her hands full with you, which gives me space to be myself.”
“You mean to get high on weed.”
“The trick is: don’t get caught.”
“You’re such a dumbass.”
“Language, Dianne! I do not want profanity in this house!”
“But Mom – !”
“Don’t! Ah ah! Not another word. To your room.”
“This is so unfair! If you’d come in like 2 seconds earlier…”
“Your father’s going to have a word with you.”
“Oh yay.”
“Don’t use that tone! I don’t want sarcasm from you. Why can’t you be like your brother!”
“Forget it! Why the hell should I stay in this house anyways? I’m getting the hell out of here. By the way, try checking the 4th drawer in his dresser. Below all his neatly folded underwear. See what you find! Goodbye!”
“Dianne! You walk out that door – !”

“Hello?”
“Hi…this is Mitch…”
“Mitch, hi.”
“Josh, was it you?”
“Was what me?”
“The…note in my locker?”
“Ah…so you figured it out huh?”
“Yeah…God. I called her last night; asked if I could come over.”
“What happened?”
“She said no…you were right.”
“She’s a first rate whore. A nice person until you start to date her... She probably had some other jerk in bed.”
“Yeah…”
“I talked to Dianne today.”
“The girl that always hangs around Megan? What happened?”
“You’re not going to believe this. She asked me out!”
“Haha!”
“I know! I was thinking, yeah you have no chance in hell… but she seemed nice so I sort of said I’d do her sometime.”
“You said you’d do her?”
“Well I said I’d date her.”
“Are you going to?”
“’Course not. I’ll weasel out of it somehow.”
“Stupid girl…she has no gaydar whatsoever.”
“Hehe. Oh well, it’s not like anyone else knows, besides you.”
“Yeah…there’s something you should know Josh.”
“What?”
“I’m bi.”
“What?! Are you serious?”
“Completely…and lately…well..I mean don’t take this the wrong way but…would you be comfortable going out with me sometime?”
“Hell yes! I’ve had a crush on you since the 3rd grade!”
“This is great! It’s like in the books…best friends falling in love…”
“You are such a hopeless romantic.”
“I know….Poor Dianne. She missed out big time.”
“Sweet girl; too bad she’s not a guy…”
“Yeah, but it’s great for me.”
“That’s sweet.”
“Thanks Josh, it’s a natural talent.”
“You have any other natural talents?”
“You want to come over and find out?”
“Give me 5 minutes…”

“Mmm. Woah. It’s going to be 11. I’ve got to get home…”
“So soon?”
“Meg, come on. Just because it’s a Saturday doesn’t mean I can’t go home…they’ll wonder where I am.”
“Stay please? Let’s just fool around a bit…mmm. Aw shit. Who’s calling now?”
“See? Even the phone wants me gone….hmm nice view, what with the sun right behind you and you in that nice white bedsheet.”
“You perv!”
“What’s perverted  about it? I think it’s incredibly sexy and it makes me want to stay here just a bit longer…”
“Good. I should still answer the phone.”
“Right. I’ll just watch you answer…that’s more than enough entertainment…”
“Hello?”
“Megan, why didn’t you tell me?”
“What is it Dianne? You sound angry…I can barely hear you. Are you using your cell?”
“It’s Dianne again?”
“Yes it’s Dianne again. Go on, Dianne.”
“Josh broke up with you? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Look I didn’t think it was a big deal.”
“You knew I liked him!”
“Whatever. I have to go.”
“I thought we were friends.”
“We are, all right?”
“No it’s not all right.”
“Give me the phone, Meg. She keeps calling.”
“No. Hey - ! Give that back!”
“Hello, Dianne?”
“Um hi…Lucas?”
“That’s right, it’s me. Listen, could you call another time? I mean you called last night, and you’re calling now…seriously, I want some time to Megan all right?”
“I didn’t call her last night! Well yeah I did, but that was before you got there.”
“What?”
“Yeah. You know Megan. She’s been in bed with the entire town. It must have been one of her other more important boyfriends. Goodbye to both of you.”
“Who called last night?”
“What?”
“You heard me Megan. Who called?”
“I don’t…all right all right. It was Mitch.”
“Mitch. I see. And why did you lie?”
“I knew you’d get mad if I told you it was him…”
“No, I’m mad now because you didn’t tell me.”
“Fine whatever. I was trying to do the right thing.”
“Well congrats.”
“Ok you know what? I have to call Dianne back. She’s pissed at me.”
“Damn right. And you know what, I’m beginning to see things from her point of view. So I’ll tell you what. You go call her, and I’ll just go. As in away from here.”
“Luke. Lucas! Come on wait.”
“Hello?”
“Dianne it’s me. Lucas wait! I’m sorry.”
“Are you saying sorry to him or me?”
“Him. I mean – ! Both dammit, both. Don’t hang up, wait! Damn. Lucas!…Lucas?”

“Hello?”
“Hi, this is Megan. Could I please speak to Christian?”
“Sure, I’ll get him…Christian!”
“Hello?”
“Hi, Christian?”
“Yeah.”
“Ok please don’t tell me you’re pissed too.”
“Oh no…not at all. I mean why would I be considering you’re screwing my brother, while we’re dating?”
“Oh shut up. It’s not like we even like each other.”
“What’s that supposed to mean? Oh wait. He told you.”
“Damn right he did.”
“Bastard. Not you, him. Actually you too, come to think of it.”
“Look I’m sorry ok? I’ve been saying sorry a lot now, but no one will listen!”
“I wonder why…”
“So do I! Just because I like guys and am good friends with many; that’s no reason to discount my apologies. Especially when I mean it.”
“Ok, point taken. Still, you throw around words a lot, and you really hurt people.”
“She said no didn’t she?”
“Yeah…well no not exactly. I called her, and apparently she likes this guy, Josh. Oh wait, I’m not supposed to tell you this…”
“It’s all right I already know.”
“And he said yes to her asking him so now I’m the one that gets screwed.”
“Well…we could always hook up.”
“Are you insane? You slept with my brother! Hell, you’re still dating him.”
“I am?”
“According to him, you’re just having trouble in your relationship…shall I tell him it’s over?”
“Are you insane? I’m totally in love with him!”
“Are you?”
“Yeah! Lucas, I love you!”
“Ouch, no need to yell in my ear…he can’t hear you anyways.”
“Well give the phone to him.”
“All right.”
“What do you want?”
“Lucas, honey please don’t be upset!”
“Don’t be upset…hmm is that humanly possible right now?”
“All right you have every right to be angry, but please hear me out.”
“Fine.”
“I am truly sorry for lying to you about last night. I know I have a rep, and that I live up to it…I never thought it would hurt someone I care about so much. But it did, and for that I’m sorry.”
“Is that it?”
“I can’t come up with something better!”
“Ok, I forgive you.”
“Mmmuah.”
“Hmm...an over the phone kiss. Too bad I can’t experience the real thing…”
“Who says you can’t? Come on over! In fact let’s invite a bunch of people. We can all hang out, watch movies…”
“Cool. I’ll bring Christian…see if Dianne will come, maybe we can play Cupid for a while…”
“Yeah sure no problem…. Oh wait. She asked Josh and he said yes or something…anyways, it doesn’t matter. I’ll invite her. Is it ok if I invite Mitch and Josh? They’re my exes…well I haven’t told Mitch yet…but I will! They’re pretty cool.”
“Yeah sure go ahead…but hands off!”
“I promise.”
“See you in a few.”
“Bye!”

“What the hell is this?”
“It’s not mine…it’s uh…Dianne’s.”
“Don’t you lie to me Fred!”
“Look Dad, it’s just a little weed…”
“You are grounded.”
“Until when?”
“Until you move out and live your own life! Get inside your room; I don’t want to speak with you!”
“Fine…”

“Nancy, where did Dianne go?”
“I don’t know…Oh David…”
“Shh. It’s ok. She’ll come back. Now we know why she was so moody all the time.”
“I told her some terrible things!”
“It’s ok. It’ll work out. Now about that boy…”
“Oh my God! We kept comparing her to him…imagine how she must have felt!”
“I know…it’s twisting me up inside. How could we be so blind?”
“I don’t know…maybe that’s why she didn’t tell us earlier? About Fred? She would have thought we wouldn’t believe her…”
“Mom, are you all right?”
“Darling! Where did you go? Oh we were so worried.”
“Mom it’s ok. I walked down the street and back a couple of times…ouch Mom that’s a  really tight hug….Where’s golden boy? Oh! I mean Fred…”
“We found the stuff.”
“Did you really?”
“Yes. And he’s going to be punished for it…why didn’t you tell us before?”
“I don’t know…we weren’t on good terms, and you kept thinking he was so perfect…”
“Darling we know neither of our children is perfect! We don’t want you to be either…”
“You don’t?”
“No! Make mistakes, but learn from them.”
“Ok, you sound really hokey now…but thanks.”
“Is that a smile? Oh I haven’t seen one in ages…never on this angelic face.”
“Oh stop Dad.”
“Nancy, get the phone…”
“It’s for you, Dianne. I think it’s Megan sweetheart.”
“’K, I’ll get it upstairs.”
“Hello?”
“Hi Dianne. Please, please don’t be mad at me, though you have every right to be. I’m sorry. Look, I’m just a big insecurity case all right? Especially with guys. I can’t tell if I’m in love or not. Hell I didn’t even know what love was. But now I do. I love Lucas.”
“Meg, I’d never poach on any of your boyfriends…but you weren’t even dating the guy. That just pissed me off.”
“I know, and I’m sorry. I just couldn’t decide. You can have him, he’s all yours.”
“Oh well gee thanks! I can have your second hand boyfriend?”
“I didn’t mean it like that!”
“I’m joking. Relax.”
“Oh. Well anyways, I just called to ask you to come over. I’m inviting a bunch of people over to my place. Just to chill for a while….Do you want to come?”
“Yeah, sure.”
“So we’re cool?”
“Absolutely!”

“Hello?”
“Mitch, hi.”
“Who is this?”
“This is Megan.”
“What do you want? I’m sort of busy.”
“No need to be so hostile. I was wondering you would come over.”
“Now?”
“Yes now.”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because. So far this entire conversation is like the one we had last night, except now the roles our reversed.
“Quit kidding! I’m serious. Oh and there’s something I need to talk to you about.”
“Same here…you go first.”
“Ok. Please don’t kill me for this, but can we break up and still stay friends…I mean I did invite you over now and I still like you as a friend and –”
“Gladly. I’m dating someone else right now as a matter of fact.”
“Haha!”
“Hey who laughed?”
“Never mind Megan…actually that would be my boyfriend…your ex as a matter of fact.”
“Josh?!”
“Hi Megan. Didn’t recognize my wonderful laugh?”
“Oh my God! Mitch you’re gay? No wait…you’ve got to be bi…Josh, you’re gay?”
“Have been for a long time now…”
“You jackass!”
“What?”
“You said yes to her!”
“Oh that… oh come on. She was head over heels for me…what could I say?”
“The truth!”
“You’re giving lessons on truth?”
“Shut up. I’m right here and you’re wrong. Besides this is about you not me.”
“Isn’t there someone who likes her? I mean, she’s not great looking, but she’s not bad either.”
“How would you know, homo?”
“That stung. Just because I’m gay doesn’t mean I don’t have any tastes in girls.”
“I know, I’m still pissed at you for lying to her…but you know, I think you may have stumbled upon an idea…by the way do you want to come over? I’m having a little par-tay.”
“Yeah sure. Why not.”
“And you better tell Dianne the truth! She’s going to be there.”
“Aw come on Megan.”
“Well she’s going to see both of you anyways…you might as well tell her before she sees you two smooching.”
“Fine, fine.”
“Great! Oh I have to go. Dianne’s here. Come over soon you guys!”
“Later Megan.”
“Bye Meg!”

“Come on Christian. Dianne’s going to be there.”
“She’s with that Josh guy.”
“No she’s not. Not yet. You told me he promised her a date. Guys make and break dates like that all the time.”
“Yeah but…”
“Come on, I bet she’s there already.”
“So what if she’s there?”
“Stop acting like a brat.”
“Shut up Luke.”
“Fine, I’m leaving. Come when you’re ready to graduate from grade school.”
“Fine!”

“Hey you guys! You made it.”
“Hey Megan!”
“Hi.”
“Mitch, this is Dianne.”
“Hi Dianne.”
“Hello Mitch.
“You’ve already met Dianne, Josh.”
“What – ? Oh yeah…yeah. Um…Dianne, could I talk to you for a sec, in prvate?”
“Sure. Meg can we use your bedroom?”
“Go ahead.”

“Dianne I have to tell you something.”
“Let me guess, you’re sorry you said yes, and now you want to say no. It’s ok, it happens all the time to me…”
“No, it’s not that simple…remember that day I told you I had some personal stuff to work out? The truth is I’d already worked it out. I’m gay. I just didn’t want to accept it; it’s why I tried dating Meg. It just didn’t work. And then you asked me, and you’re so sweet…I really like you as a person and a friend…and hey, you’re really good in chemistry.”
“Wish there was some between us…”
“I’m sorry. I should have said ‘no’ the first time.”
“Yes you should have. I’m glad you’re telling me now though.”
“Well you have Meg to thank for that. She told me to tell you before I started kissing Mitch in front of everyone.”
“Woah…you and Mitch? Haha!”
“What?”
“You’re both Megan’s exes!”
“Hehe, I know. It’s pretty funny, yeah.”
“Wow, but – she told you to be honest with me?”
“Yeah.”
“Hmm…well she really does mean well at heart.”
“Definitely.
“Was that the doorbell?”
“Yeah, someone must have arrived… What do you say we go join the others now?”
“Sure…”
“Hi Lucas. Where’s Christian?”
“He is a little busy…he might come later though.”
“All right. Here’s everyone else. Mitch and Josh are over there. Mitch has dark brown hair, Josh has black. Umm…there’s Dianne.”
“Hi everyone.”
“Hey Lucas.”
“So you’re Megan’s latest conquest?”
“Watch it Josh! He’s my true love, aren’t you baby?”
“Mmm.”
“Mmm.”
“Ahem! Get a room!”
“Shut up, Mitch.”
“All right we’re done now.”
“Are we, Meg?”
“Just for now….guys what movie do you want to see?”
“Something funny.”
“Something scary.”
“Scary it is.”
“Hey - !”
“Her house, her rules.”
“Thank you Lucas. Everyone, find a comfortable place to sit and watch!”

“Mmm. Oh…that’s wonderful…yeah right there. Jeez Mitch, you should be a masseur.”
“Thanks darling…”
“Hey Meg! Someone’s at the door.”
“Aw someone else go get it. I’m a little busy here…”
“Fine, since I have no one to cuddle, I shall open the door.”
“Thank you Dianne!”
“We love you!”

“Uh hi…I’m Christian.”
“I know, I’ve seen you around school before…you uh want to come in?”
“Yeah, sure. You’re Dianne right?”
“Hey Dianne, looks like you have someone to cuddle after all!”
“Shut up Megan!”
“Sorry, she’s a little weird…oh wait…aren’t you dating her?”
“Um well not really.”
“Shut up! We want to watch the movie.”
“Yeah get a room!”
“Megan!”
“I meant to talk…”

“Actually, I wanted to ask you, if you would go out with me…and I saw Josh; he’s with Mitch so…”
“I…well. I’m flattered.”
“Is that a ‘no’?”
“No, it’s not a ‘no’. Umm…I’d like to try dating you for a while…”
“Really? I mean wow! You just made my day!”
“Do you want to watch the rest of the movie with us?”
“Yeah sure...you uh…want to sit by me?”
“I’d like that.”

~THE END~

Author notes

Thus ends the story of Broken Telephone; a story about teenagers and a peek into their lives. I might write more later, and I really enjoyed writing this. At first it was hard coming up with a diologue all the way through, but then I sort of got into the groove. Hope you like it! Any and all comments are welcome as long as it is more than one word and maeningful. (Not that my story is, but oh well!)

oh my god I'm so confused, all this dialogue is bouncing around in my head! I liked this and its has a unique perspective into teenagers lives, but did everyone have to have a happy ever after? I thought that was unrealistic, because I've been seen the same thing of a group of friends all dating each other and we all end up miserable. Although now that we no longer speak, its great and I can actually tolerate them! lol

Lol, yeah, most people wouldn't want to, I guess. I just wanted to show the reason why she was like that: there's a conversation between her and Lucas, where they get sort of deep, and talk about family. I guess I wanted to show her loneliness...

But lol, I myself don't know people like the characters in my story; everything was off the top of my head, and hey if I had to pick, I wouldn't hang out with Megan either lol!
    Thanks for reading and applauding!

I'll say this much; I wouldn't hang out with a whore like Megan any day; but that's just me. Very interesting and unique write. Good job.

Ah! At first I was like... hmm... we shall try it out. But then I read THE WHOLE THING! Which is quite an accomplishment for me. Is there going to be a sequel or anything because I would love to read the continuation. This is one of the best pieces I have ever read. The drama pissed me off at times but turned out sort of humorous at the end. All is well that ends well I suppose. Hope to see a second! *Applause*!

Oh, let me divulge the secret behind the all-dialogue story:

There was this book that I read waaay back in the 8th grade called "Phone" something-or-other by R.L. Stein, and I really liked reading that, (Perhaps it was "Phone Calls"? I dunno, YOU look it up if you care that much!) because it was nothing more than a few phone calls between friends. It was kinda realistic, but you know, all that hokey stuff had to happen . . .

ANYWAYS . . . this really isn't that long, Morgana. I mean, my shortest *finished* screenplay, Anvil, is still like, 118 pages longer than this . . . GREAT WRITE, once again . . .

Made me laugh in first 7 lines . . . *applauds*

Wow! GREAT WRITE! Could you please do me a favor and PLEASE (I realize how weird this sounds) edit an asterisk (actually, 2, looks like: **) into your title? That would be great!

    THANK YOU FOR ENTERING!!!!!!
