I found him in a shoe box
discarded, abandoned,
shivering, ever so cold,
haunted eyes following my
every move, not a claw
withdrawn, just fear of
humans, some had abused him
others had let him starve,
watchful as I carried box and
all, waiting patiently as we drove home
to the unknown, age unknown he
tried to eat a little, ever watchful,
waiting for some ill to befall him
as had happened in the past, missing teeth
and scorch marks in his fur were nothing
compared to his eyes, both of which were
scarred, maybe an accident, maybe not,
we became friends, as much as cats have friends
he would nestle onto my lap, with a deep growl
of satisfaction he would trust me for a while,
When the great cat in the sky claimed him for his own
he was sadly missed, his trusting soul pinned onto
my heart..........

Author notes
This cat came into my life by default, he had been abused and was due to be put to sleep, so I stole him

I have tears!
I'm an animal person..cats being my kindred spirits of sorts..
You did exactly what i would have done in this situation..and have done many times through the years..
I'm still sitting here with a heavy heart..telling myself this cat recieved the best in it's last moments..it's just the thought of it's life &...geeeeeeeeeez! ~wiping away tears~
I've gotta get a grip!
This is how God's creatures effects me..and when someone can put so much emotion into their words that i can feel so strongly..well..double whammy! lol..
Your talent leaves me in awe..blessed you are!
much love & peace

I did find this write incredibly sad, not only due to the story you told but it reminded me of nature's and human's brutality. This happens every day. None the less an enjoyable read though! Nice flow and great imagery. Good luck in the contest. Take care and thanks for sharing, Kate
