The City

The City

Light shimmers,
shining its way deep,
reaching my soul,
purifying.

Calm surroundings;
and I am in blissful peace.
So soothing, so marvellously
comforting.

Longing to spread this joy,
this ultimate feeling;
a concentrate of all
that is good in the world...

A smile given for
a solitary soul,
a spirit that lives
upon the streets.

A bit of light stretching,
reaching to him from me.

Coins scatter amidst
the rank garbage
that lines the
gray pavement;
soon picked up by
eager hands,
once grimy, now shining
faintly with an
unearthly brilliance.

A flower for a lonely girl,
a smile brightening her face,
as she shyly walks away,
caressing petals soft.

Hungry stomachs quickly fed,
saddened spirits are soon lifted,
sorry hearts come alive
with happiness.

True strength of soul,
of heart, and of courage
builds up inside;
a stream of light
swelled from rain.

The banks overflow,
drenching all those,
touching them,
giving them a glimpse
of true happiness.

And now,
the wind lifts me,
I am weightless,
floating peacefully,
amidst a city
bathed in light...

-Morgana

Author notes

This is what spirituality is to me. It's not about what religion you are, it doesn't even matter if you have one...all that matters is if you can channel that spiritual part of you into something greater, something that is good for everyone around you.

I suppsoe my choice is number 2 or 3.

I counted the lines, and it's 51. I'm really sorry... some of my lines are really short though, like one word...

    GREEAATT!!

    From MoonChild55,
    Hey there Morgana...I am finally back.I am truly sorry that you will be leavingAP ....I hope I will still be able to read your poems.I really loved City Lights.The imagery and insightfulness of this poem is outstandingly beautiful.I love your description of spirituality..You have wisely deciphered the difference of religiosity and spirituality.One is ruled by laws and rules that no human being can do and the other is being free to enjoy the beauty of what God has put before each of us and the ability to live in this world.GREEAATT!!

    I like you idea of writing about what spiritulaity means to you and not about a specific religion. I know I wouldn't say that I follow one religion, but I have a personal spirituality which is incredibly important. I think it's very nice that you chose to write about that considering I think its is a very important part of our lives.

    You r poem flows beautifully, and your word choice is perfect. Your imagery was definately the best part of the poem though. I enjoyed visualizing all of the scenes in my head.

    Again, super write, and keep up the great work.

    Religion is just a way to channel that spiritual part of you. Unfortunately, people have corrupted that and turned into all sorts of other things which is really saddening. I think God or whoever would rather see us living peacefully side by side rather than fight over Him...and if He isn't real, well I know that I myself would rather live in peace with everyone, rather than fight over someone that doesn't exist... either way, there's no cause for anyone to insult you over religion.

    Thanks; yes I wanted to to show that spirituality is not a solitary experience. In fact, you can grow spiritually from being around people who are spiritual themselves. I wanted to show that aspect by talking about a city

    I really like the idea behind this. That is what spirituality should be in my eyes. I've gotten comments on how since I don't have a religion I'm faithless and such but I agree that it shouldn't matter. This is a lovely peice and has great imagery inside it. Just think of how many of the worlds problems would be solved if everyone acted like this. Take care

    Amazing

    Omg this was great!! You are definitaly going to win, unless they get mad over the extra line...which they shouldn't!! But this is grea, you have captured spirituality exactly. This is what it is. So amazing, you really should publish this!!

    I especially like the last two lines because it suggest that spiritual is not a singular experience, but encompasses society as a whole. Thought provoking. Good writing.

    This is a very interesting take on the wuestion of spirituality. I like it because it is practical, and that is what spiritua;ity should be. Many can sound eloqoent on this subject, but not understand it's practicality. Great job.

    beautiful, and i really love the setting, most people equate spirituality w/ nature, but this is very convincing. i love the city in summer time, the way the heat rises from the pavement. great write.

    The City itself is sort of a metaphor for the places that are filled with kindness...hopefully, that kindness and spiritual strength will reach to larger cities and bigger places. Thanks for commenting!

    Excellent

    What city is this about? I think it is a powerful piece, because it doesn't glorify the spiritualism of some etheral place, but it admires the serenity and goodness of where we are. And where are we? the city. The city is everything. Good write.
