I got off the 'plane at midnight and it had never felt so hot,
I knew that it would stay this way, but I hoped that it would not.
But the more time that I spent out here, the more it was allright.
Although I did have trouble sleeping, and had nosebleeds through the night.
I’ve been to Basra City, to open the new school there,
I saw all of the children, and you couldn't help but care.
We couldn't give them water, and we couldn't throw them food,
And although I knew I couldn't, I also felt I should.
I'll still keep all the memories, of the things that I have done,
There may have been some hard times, but I've also had some fun.
But I was not alone out here; we have all played our role,
We may be a Multi- national, but all with the same goal.
We came to capture Saddam, and to set this country free,
And everyone has done that here, including you and me.
This is my poem of Iraq, of the time that I spent here,
But now I’m heading home, to a case of ice-cold beer.
I hope that you will join me, in standing up to say,
That we’ve helped these peoples’ lives, in a very special way.
Before I leave, I’ll say goodbye to everyone I know
The Yanks, the Dutch and Italians, farewell, but now I’ll go.
I wish you all the best of luck, although you have to stay,
But do not fret, the time goes quick, and you’ll be home someday.

T-shirts fade..away. Memories seldom do. Stories get expanded and time never heals. Pride will always be there, no matter the desenters failed attempts. Its amazing for me to read so few comments on the entries from those who actually have .. been there done that. Two direct entries from the front and only one comment on one and none on another. Very interesting to see that.
I'm so glad you make it home. So happy for all who love you and I'm so proud of your service and your continued attitude. Keep the faith bro, check 6!
