Like letters
chiseled into concrete
your memory
will stay engraved
in our hearts
forever.
The years past
will stay with us
for years to come.

Author notes
Okay, I wrote this on August 20 at 3:00-ish AM but I was NOT going to post it until after midnight on the actual anniversary of when my Grandpa died...
Well...in a couple hours, it'll be officially one year since he died...
There's a little something in this poem that is special because my Grandpa is the only one that would understand it...
I miss you Grandpa...I love you

It's been 6 years since my grandmother died, 3 since my grandfather died, and I still have difficulty expressing my emotions. I've been able to express the pain with others i've lost but for some reason, when I try to write about them I just block out. Maybe because its still too painful although I know that isn't the reason. Your poem reminded me I need to finally express myself, fully...Thanks

It sounds like he would have been happy to have this on his headstone. Did you actually do that?
-
nice, when my grandfather died one of my cousins wrote him a poem 'truman a true man ' but it was one of the funerals i didnt attend for i wasnt close to him i was around 8 and it would have been my fourth funeral for imediate family

it's amazing how something so short could be so glorious. You certainly think fondly about him, it was a lovely piece!

Thanks Sara. We were very close, and so today will probably be hard...
I'm sorry it made you cry...however, I admit it does make me feel very honored that one of my poems evoked that kind of emotion in someone. I appreciate your kind words and heartfelt hug
thanks again for stopping by

Oh-my-god! this poem literally made me cry. It's so sad and I'm sorry for your loss....even if it was a year ago. It is so sad when people die, and i give you a heartfelt hug
because I know what your going through and it can be rough.
I cant believe that such a short poem could be so powerful. I know that now on the one year "anniversary" it is even harder than ever before, and it is so nice of you to think about him. You two must have been very close.

What a loving apostrophe poem. When we lose someone, it is comforting to write a poem about them and keep their memories alive through our words. Wonderful job. I am sure your grandpa would be proud.
