Remember When

Remember summer evenings catching fireflies,
we'd let them flicker in our jars for awhile,
then watch them fly slowly away into the night,
when we let them go free, how it made us smile.

Remember the picnics on the Fourth of July,
the whole family still lived in the same town,
our aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents,
all lived nearby and were always around.

Remember all our great summer vacations,
we'd spend a whole week down at the shore,
cars were not air conditioned back then,
so we argued for the seat next to the door.

Remember all the kids in the neighborhood,
playing hide and seek after it got dark,
how you could not find me in the dog house,
until our dog Skipper would start to bark.

Remember the mountain of dirt piled high,
as they were building the new grocery store,
and how we would all play king of the mountain,
you pushed me down, and gave that Tarzan roar.

These are just a few of our childhood memories,
I still cherish even though they are long ago,
I had so much fun with my brothers and sister,
my childhood innocence,I will always miss you so.

Author notes

This was a typical summer for me in the 1950's with my sister and five brothers They were truly wonderful and one of the happiest times of my life.

Thanks Pozo, I seem to be stuck in the past today. I guess because in between finding God in June and my teenage years everything ended in pain. Thank God my life is happy now . Take care, Tank you for the wonderful comment, Sandy
