Sheltered Heart

Wounded and hurt
I locked my heart away
The key was thrown into a void
And so the protective wall was built
To keep my emotions in
And people out

Friends attempt to decipher
The coded password of my soul
Discovering that its an impossible feat
Only those who have talent
Of getting me to smile
Have a slight chance

I keep my heart sheltered
Not to scare others away
Its a personal test to decide
Who might bring me happiness
Yet such thoughts are simply
Pointless to even have

I sit alone, shivering from
The cold thoughts in my head
You open the door and enter the room
Noticing my pathetic appearance
Suddenly something gives way
And we begin to talk

You take my hand in yours
And give it a friendly embrace
Oh, if you only would see
What your kindness has done to me
No longer am I cold and alone
I never want to leave this place

The wall I tried to build
To keep my heart encased in its tomb
Is destroyed due to your actions
Feelings cannot be locked away
Eventually they must come out
To free the soul

Author notes

in no way is this a particular event that i have experienced. i was reading some manga and a few of the pics inspired me to write that. yeah...nothing like that will ever happen to me. o well. i dont care. hmm...i hope this fits the description of the contest ok. hate for my poem to go un-read. but then again, i never have a good chance, cause theres so many better writers out there!
