The Ugly Fairy

 THE UGLY FAIRY

My mother would tell a story, when I was only three
she would pick me up gently, and sit me on her knee
The story told of a sweet little fairy, named Emily
she lived in an English rose garden, with her family

Now Emily wasn't pretty,, but she had a heart of gold
she would daydream of finding, her own true love to hold
She lived across the meadow, from an English country home
it was said to be empty, except for a mean little gnome

One day while flying in the meadow, a storm began to brew
raindrops fell upon her wings, the wind was blowing too
When the storm was over, she was far away from home
she had fallen into the arms, of an ugly little gnome

The gnome was ugly, but she thought he looked hot
though he was short and chubby, she liked him a lot
Emily said the sun is setting, it is time for me to go
Ian said to Emily," there's something you should know

My name is Ian, and I have always watched you from afar
I would sneak across the meadow, and wonder who you are
Whenever you were unhappy, I watched you cry your tears
you looked so very beautiful, I have loved you for years

Well, the story has a happy ending, Emily found true love
on their wedding day a rainbow, streamed down from above
Emily and Ian are still happy, in the empty country home
people stare at the children, they never saw flying gnomes

What a beautiful story teller you are! To put such a sweet story in poetry form is very talented indeed.

I wish my children were still little so I could tell them this story at bedtime. Maybe one day (if I ever get some Grandkids) I can tell this story to them.

Congrats on the silver...it's gold to me!

    I love happy endings

The title may be “The Ugly Fairy”, but this is one beautiful story. I was simply spellbound from the very start to see what would happen next. The flow and rhyme were, as always, smooth and unforced. I love happy endings, and the way this story concluded made me very happy. Congratulations on the silver trophy, and thanks for posting this beautiful poem. Your are loved, and blessed with a great talent and it shows.
    God bless you Sandy!

This was a great poem. The story was so pretty and simple, like a childs book. Mabye you should send the poem to an agent, see if you can't become a childs author, you'd be good at it, and the fact that all your stories are in poetry form adds to the charm. I know as a kid I use to love poem storybooks. Anyways, I really liked this poem!

This was cute and hilarious!! I love poems that have a story to them. This was a fun one to read. I liked the part at the end about their children being flying gnomes. This was great. I see you wrote this a long time ago, I've been going to different peoples pages to look at their poetry for children. I have kids and I enjoy reading some of them to them. They liked this one.!!

Aw! This is one of the best happy ending poems I have ever seen on allpoetry! Did your mom really tell you a story like this or do you just have a fantastic imagination? Well either way you did a wonderful job of writing this. The flow is done well and the rhyming sounds pretty too.

Can not accept it as it is.

Beautiful...I love the story...This is truly a work of art. The biggest problem, however, is that the contest you entered it into has requirements you have yet to fulfill. I'm sorry, but until they are done, I can't judge this for the contest. You've missed two very important rules...please reread the contest and edit this work. I would hate to have to ignore such a beautiful peice in my judging tonight.
