Missing You Bill

Sometimes I still wonder what really happen to us,
our love was gone that day in the blink of an eye,
the end came much too quickly, right out of the blue,
how I wish I had the chance to kiss him goodbye.

I knew Bill only as a friend for so many many years,
we found ourselves both divorced and very lonely too,
we dated for six months and forgot all of our cares,
then one summer night he said, honey I love you.

Bill and I moved to a little town in Pennsylvania,
we planned to marry , our families would be one,
we would have six wonderful children between us,
I had two, a girl and boy, he had four young sons.

Two months before our wedding I noticed a change,
leaving all the children, he went off to be all alone,
Bill became withdrawn, he seemed to be in so much pain,
sitting in a lonely room he stopped answering the phone.

I took care of all our children till one cold winter day,
my neighbor knocked, I did not believe what he had said,
the man I was to marry parked his car the night before,
he left the engine running all night, now he was dead.

My life went on, I married again, to a very hurtful man,
God has taken my sorrow, the good memories linger still,
at night, I close my eyes and wonder, how would it be,
if I  had married the man I truly loved, I miss you Bill.

Author notes

Though this happened many years ago ,this was very hard to write. I put my heart and soul into this poem.  I have put some clousure on this sad time in my life. Since I have found God recently he gives me all the love and strength I need to be happy.

      Great Comment!!

Hello Scarzat and thank you for reading my friend. I so appreciate your compassion. It was many years ago but I remember that knock on the door so vividly. My children and grandchildren have gotten me through so much. Heartache seems to follow me throughout my life. My own bad choiceswhen falling in love.

      Take care my friend

    Wow, Sanda....
This is a very touching and sad poem. Sometimes closure is a hard thing to find. I lost someone when I was younger, it was the older sister of one of my best friends. I wasn't that close but it affected me all the same. I feel for you, but I'm happy that yo've found God, Mark 10:27
    Great write,
