Passing Time

The passage of time like the sand in a hourglass,
has crept by slowly since the creation of mankind,
somehow man is always rushing to go somewhere,
to only find what he has left so far behind.

Time seems to go in circles like hands upon a clock,
the earth rotates daily then yearly around the sun,
why does time always seem motionless in sad times,
but rushes quickly by us when we're having fun.

Youthfulness  and time are wasted on the young,
they seem to squander so much precious time away,
feeling as though their life will go on forever,
they forget their time on earth will end someday.

Time gathers memories in our minds through the years,
sometimes they can flash quickly in front of our eyes,
it can happen quickly in that one brief moment of time,
when our life is almost over and we are about to die.

Time has the power to change all that Earth beholds,
it will never stand still and time will never end,
time can takes it's toll or time can be on your side,
it's left up to you if time is an enemy or a friend.

Oh Sandy, this is such a beautiful poem, so true also. I feel that when I was young I wasted time, thinking life will go on forever, but now I am older and wiser I know it wont.
