Poaching on the River Ayr:
The river was running well
The sun high, but wasn’t too bright,
Plenty of shade on the sidings,
The wellies tied up to the knees,
Dry clothing waits on the bank,
Small pools looked calm and inviting,
With our net poised at the ready,
Standing just a little downstream,
Waiting silently in anticipation,
Tip-toeing across the stones,
The waterfalls just out of range,
Now’s the time to strike our net,
Successful strikes of plunging net,
Panicking fish that flee,
Transferring fish from net to pot,
Ten to twenty fish or more
Collected on the banking,
Minnows returned to the river Ayr

Author notes
My grandson and I went to the river to catch a few minnows and sticklebacks....
we let them go back into the pool before we went home.
