So Falls the Zambezi 1.

Softly moves the magnificent Zambezi,
its waters confined by forests on each side,
have meandered across many a country.

Through splendid wilderness flows its expanse wide,
filled with hippopotamus and crocodiles,
deservedly Zimbabwe and Zambia's pride.

After travelling slowly for many miles
as sunny elephant filled islands go past,
gathering its might it sighs, then slowly smiles,

with one gasp takes a plunge with its waters vast,
thundering as it falls, feeling free at last!

Author notes

This is a terza rima, the might and grandeur of the Zambezi are impossible to explain withi its constrains, ill have to write many more poems on it.
The Zambezi flowing between Zimbabwe and Zambia plunges over as the world biggest falls; Victoria falls.
part two will be on the falls.

    BRAVO!!

Great poem about the river Zambezi, the way you have described it here with your words makes it so vivid, its travels toward the falls filled with so many things,
as sunny elephant filled islands go past,
I love how you begin your poem with the river flowing softly, then at the falls the change of pace,
with one gasp takes a plunge with its waters vast,
thundering as it falls, feeling free at last!

good flow from start to finish.
Well done!! hugs my friend ~Katie~

    Ah -
Didn't you say you were taking me to zimbabwe? I would love to see this river. I live with the Columbia River at my door step and have most of my life. I have canoed the headwaters of the Mississippi and rafted the Mighty Colorado, but those rivers all pale in comparison. You have shown a small slice of its magnificence here. by the way - did you know that there is actually no limit to the number of lines there are in a terza rima... ou can write forever as long as you keep the metre and rhyme scheme and end in a couplet... just for future reference.. And I too am looking forward to part 2 of this.

    Very beautifully written.
Magnificent in content and inpiring in its beauty
    A fitting tribute to nature.
For one who loves poetic form, you are an inpiration to attempt that which has not been tried
    I thoroughly enjoyed this

    Dear Pari,
Why limit yourself to the eleven lines of a terza rima? If you opted for the fourteen lines of a sonnet and wrote such exciting material I wouldn't say a WORD about the meter!!
I promise!! I enjoyed this tribute to a mighty river very much and look forward to episode two on the Victoria Falls.
Applause, Love and hugs, XXX Hugh.

It is lovely the way you describe the places, the images are so clear, it feels like watching a documentary on National Geography
The poem, the form and the background made from this page a relaxing corner.
Thanks for this most enjoyable read!
    Kisses and love,
    Mari

Though you don't like forms but it doesn't mean you can't do them... this is very well written in a "terza rima" form... I know Africa is very popular for it's nature/safari parks where nature persists peacfully... God willing one day I'll be there... I love the feel of this poem... thanx for sharing...

I enjoyed this visit to a country I have never had the luck to visit, you make it so vivid and colourful, thank you and yes I agree, it was too short

Great job at describing this...The rhyme scheme enhanced the poem...If it had been a little longer you would have given the reader more time to enjoy it This poem seems too short, but it's very nice! Great work!

Your background to this piece of writing is fantastic!!! it sets the scene and fits your theme so very well... I can tell how close to your heart the Zambezi is, you have put zeal into your poem with the words you have chosen... I am not familar with a "terza rima" but i feel it is something to do with the way you have written this particular piece... I shall find out.... again a beautiful nature poem... have thoroughly enjoyed reading this...hugs ~Katie~

Way to go Peacelink! I swear you are one of the most inspiring people and you are excellent at tackling multiple tasks as well . I have to say that you did a splendid job with this. Terza Rima can be a tricky and difficult form, but you have done it BEAUTIFULLY! The topic is very important and you've painted a gorgeous picture in it as well. Also...the background is simply a specialized treasure! It's fantastic! A wonderful write. Best of wisehs... and 's ~genielassie~
