"Greater love hath no man than this,
that he lay down his friends for his life."
- Jeremy Thorpe
They are cheering.
I have just been accused of murder
and they are cheering.
Justice is about
whether people think you did it.
What you actually did
is inconsequential.
I'll go to the flower show tomorrow.
Journalists are jeering.
They ask if I'll resign.
They don't really care.
It's what they say you did
that matters.
What you actually did
is inconsequential.
I hope this coffee evening will be fun.
The judge is fuming.
He calls him a crook, a liar,
whiner, parasite and fraud
And yet I had an affectionate
relationship with him.
And if enough people believe
I didn't sleep with him
Then whether I actually did
is inconsequential.
The jury are deciding.
For half of them it's too far fetched
even for a very British scandal -
Assassinated dogs and the botched killing
of a queer male model.
I wonder if I'll be re-elected.
The foreman is delivering
the not guilty verdict.
Enough people believe me
That int he eyes of the law
I am not guilty.
And now whether I really did it
or not
is inconsequential.

Jeeeez this is going back a fair ole while. Annoying partly cos of the homophobia, partly cos of the poor ole sodding dog, but mainly cos the liberals never got in, leaving Callaghan and then Thatcher to fuck up the proceedings. A fine mess, guv. I'm a bit confused about the message of your poem, as normally I have it sussed and agree, but, I mean, you saying he actually killed that Scott guy? Surely shome mishtake? Aw I do like provocative writing, promise you won't stop ever ...

Hi Hon! I'm so glad to see you back! You probably don't even remember me anymore.
Anyhow, I love this. I have really missed your words. Great job on this.

That's great how you can keep coming back to the main idea and i was so into reading it got me hooked great piece by the way

interesting. true, what people believe you did is what matters. no one cares about the truth anymore; what they care about is what they think is truth, what their convenient recollection is.

Quite interesting... that is a good thing. You keep the reader involved. I love your message and your choice of words. You are getting my last applause!
Bravo... I am picky with those. Thank you for sharing.

This is really good and I liked how you kept bringing the reader back to the main idea. So often the point is lost in frilled words.
