Remember The 70's

Missing image
Screamed for John Travolta,
in a disco movie years ago.
It was Saturday Night Fever,
playing the local picture show.

He really had the dance moves then,
as he would disco cross the floor.
His white suit on had bell bottoms,
high platform shoes tapped the floor.

The glitter of the disco ball,
would spin and captivate your eyes,
You lost sense of reality,
put you on a natural high.

Flashing lights looked like moonbeams,
the colors would pulsate all night.
Shiny silver and gold streamers,
the dance floor looked out of sight.

Danced all night to the BeeGees,
then we would do the Disco Duck.
If you wanted a nice slow dance,
hey man, you were just out of luck.

I remember our mini skirts,
our hot pants looked real cool.
We discoed in our halter tops,
guys would watch us dance and drool.

Then the decade came to an end,
disco dance clubs disappeared too.
Everyone wanted their MTV,
Sting, Blondie and Madonna too.

Vietnam war was now over,
people could be happy again.
Disco's glitz and all the glitter,
helped the country and hearts mend.

This was really fantastic. The imagery and the rhythm and flow was brilliant. Gave me a real sense of what the 70's were all about. Loved this. Thanks for entering.

    Much Appreciated

Yes they were such fun decades it's easy to write about them. My favorite is the fiftys. I was in high school and it was a time kids had such good clean fun. It was just like the show Happy Days. I wish my grand children in high school now could enjoy what I did. Thank you for the nice comment. Take care, Sandy

    Fabulous

    Aww this rocks dude! I love the stanza;
    'Flashing lights looked like moonbeams,
the colors would pulsate all night,
with shiny silver and gold streamers,
the dance floor looked out of sight.' I just really like the description here of the glitter and colours. Excellent.
This contest topic was inspired by your poem which you entered into the last contest (Remember the 60's) cos I liked it so much I like how you've continued with that theme into 'Remember the 70's'. You really have a knack for describing the scenes and atmosphere's from the past. Brilliant work (yet again!)
