Bundle Of Joy

It's a blessed event that happens,
sometimes more then once in your life,
it starts with a man and a woman,
their love begins the creation of life.

In the beginning it does not show,
but there is a gleam in your eyes,
it tells the rest of the world,
the happiness you feel inside.

The months go by and you start to show,
you anticipate what it will be,
will daddy get his sweet baby boy,
or will it be a girl who looks like me.

The final months are really awkward,
you cannot see your feet anymore,
baby's kicking keeps you awake all night,
Your feet have become swollen and sore.

One day at home your water breaks,
your husband rushes you out the door,
once you arrive at the hospital,
it's up to the maternity floor.

Hours of exhausting breathing and pain,
it's finally time for baby's birth,
he's had nine long months to grow inside,
now it's his time to breath on earth.

The sound of your new born baby,
brings a flood of tears to your eyes,
you're thankful that he's healthy,
your husband holds you as you both cry.

You will always remember with happiness,
the birth of each child you bare,
and how this precious little baby,
taught you to open your heart and share.

  • You made child birth actually maybe seem kinda sorta fun! besides horrid labor and cravings at 2am! But that little one wrapping their fingers around yours makes it worth it

I bet you don't remember it as vividly as their mother does. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my poem. Take care, Sandy

So sweet, it makes me remember the precious days and hours before the birth of my own daughter 7 months ago. It's hard to believe she's grown so much already. Thanks for entering!

Wow...this was so heartfelt and touching! I'm 13, so I've never experienced childbirth (go figure.) but this poem was really touching. I can't wait 'til I'm in my twenties/thirties and I can have children of my own. It will be wonderful! Well, excellent poem. Great job! I didn't see any grammatical or spelling errors either. Good luck in the contest!

Very, very true!! Having been there four times, I will never forget nor would I trade the experience for anything in the world. Truth be told...even though I know the pain was intense and beyond anything I had ever known...I actually have a more vivid recall of the pain I felt getting my wisdom teeth pulled than I do any pain associated with the birth of my children. This is a wonderful poem and I enjoyed reading it. You brought back many memories with your wonderful words. Great job! Good luck in the contest.
