My Sweet Man
He gamble a lot
Don’t never work much
Shoot crap when he hot
Bet the ponies and such~
My sweet man with a horn
Don’t need much cash
Music pays his keep
Gamblin’ give him a stash
Always happy, never weep~
My sweet man with a horn
Stay all nite at Club Handy
Playin’ with a pick-up band
He hot, and a bit randy
Sweetest blues in the land~
My sweet man with a horn
Know all songs by heart
Play and sing from the soul
Never looks at the charts
Perfection is his goal~
My sweet man with a horn
He spend all nite on Beale
Jest playin’ the blues
But daylight always reveal
It’s my place he drop his shoes~
My sweet man with a horn.

Great!
Very cool! Has a great beat, like the music this cat makes his living on! Great! -
Oh I really did like this, you have such style, something more modern writers lack. Visuals, sounds, sights, smells, I can hear Billie singing this right now. Good clipped form. Thank you for the moment of escape. As always it is a pleasure. Hope you are well.

I'm in a cloudy room, folks coming and going and there's little space for the tiny chairs.
But the man with the horn makes us flyyyyyyyyy into the air.
Excellent folksy piece. Loved it.
If you are watching us, I pray that the family behind is alright! Warmly, CookieZeal/DB -

Beautiful -we will surely miss you
Jean,
A beautiful write. A soul that I wish I had known. A very interesting way of writing this. You can fly free now, spread your wings. May you rest in peace. You are loved deeply by those who love you. Watch out for everyone, please be their guiders and protectors. Thank you for all you have done.
What comes from the heart, goes to the heart.
With love,
Kalen

This took me back to Memphis! I loved my week there. I always put on the music you sent to share, and it also takes me back. I love that music. It's real, like music should be. We're all loving it as we share it with others too. Please check out your tribute poem I wrote in your honor called, "This man I know," and I sure hope it lets you know, without a doubt, how much you are loved by this woman. You should have no doubt about that now. I have no doubt that you love me, and that spiritual connection has only strengthened. I'm praying for a miracle, and, Jean, I really need to hear from you. I'm incredibly worried. Whether things are going well, which is my prayer, or they're not going well, either way, I need to know. I really need to know and I can't express this enough. Please, as I've explained before, don't try to protect me, because with my personality, that can be the worst thing anyone can do, even though it's meant well and paved with good intentions. It's when I don't know that causes internal conflict with me, because nightmares come, and my daily thoughts are filled with what might be happening, and it's always worse than what is actually happening, even though that could be bad enough. My imagination can create scenerios that would blow your mind, and that's what's happening. It's scaring me. Please do your best to contact me, somehow, and if you're too weak, please have your son contact me, here on AP, or via email or snail mail, whatever works. I really need to hear from you and I just can't emphasize that enough. And, then we'll just go from there, once I know what's going on. A step at a time--a day at a time, and an abundance of prayer. Just believe, Jean, 'cause this can be turned around. You're not alone! And, I love you!--Kel

Ahhhhhh, this takes me to a place I never was , yet somehow I must have been ....geez , maybe New Orleans in the thirties, for every word you wrote sounded familiar and I must admit I smiled. This spoke of so much love , even though it did not make it the main focus. Hmmmmmm , maybe I really did just discover my previous life (in my current one I am a woman) but I believe I might have been the man with the horn
Take good care of you ,

This is interesting Jean - taken from a women's point of view - well done, you are a man full of surprises.
I particularly like that last stanza about where he drops his shoes - cheeky but nice.
Love and
coming your way

This reminds me of the poem "Trumpet Player" by Langston Huges. It has bluesy overtones, and the images are great. Good that he drops his shoes at your place, nice to have friends who can stop by, and take off their shoes, means they are feeling at home.
Very nicely written, and the rhyme is perfect. Glad to have come to visit you my friend. It has been a while. I have enjoyed.
Much Love,
Renee

Beautiful
This is a very lovely write Jean, "My Sweet Man". As I read this poem I'm thinking about an old guy blowing his horn and hanging with the other fellas at the club and doing whatever he must to put some change in his pocket. This is very much like a walk into th past. A very nice read Jean, very enjoyable. Loveya, Avril

This sounds likes its abouts a blues player. In the 30-40's a lot of them traveled alone on the road of fame. God bless you for the memories.
