Night (haiku)

vital stars twinkle

as a child I heard their song

now I hear crickets

Author notes

When I was young I always used to think that the sound that crickets made was the sound of the stars twinkling.  I wish I'd never learned the truth.

this piece seemed to sad to me. it's like fleeting beauty. now that you've lost the idealistic views of a child, everything seems stark and uncomplicated. love this piece. -alex

Wow, that's quite an interesting story. You really thought the sound of cricket's was the sound of twinkling stars?? That's just so weird. You have quite the imagination and I understand your disappointment when you found out the long-awaited truth... This piece is sad and beautiful...

Wow...I never would have thought to compare what you thought as a child to how you think (well, KNOW) now like this. I love haikus that take something so deep, or so true and expresses it in such little words.

I never thought that the crickets were the stars twinkling, but I always wish I never learned the truth about things like Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy, and things like that...

It sucks growing up...things change so much more than you could ever realize as a child...I wish I could go back to when I was really young...life was so much simpler back then...

I really liked this poem...and I think it's fun how with a haiku, usually the comments are longer than the poem
