God's Army

News I heard today made me cry,
as more brave soldiers had to die.
How many more will lose their life,
leaving behind sorrow and strife.

Three thousand dead, is a lot to me,
families left with just memories.
God had a reason, some don't know why,
their hearts broken too numb too cry.

I don't know if we should stay and fight,
I no longer know if it's wrong or right.
My heart grieves for the blood being shed,
God has a plan for the living, the dead.

Three thousand fine soldiers taking a rest,
God is watching over our bravest and best.
Life is a battle, some win some lose,
be a winner if it's God's love you choose.

Our fine brave soldiers fight a war in Iraq,
many sons and daughters have not come back.
As they died all their souls were set free,
from all their pain, anguish and misery.

When God's love engulfs your heart and mind,
it's easier to be the loved one left behind.
They're at peace in Heaven, they fight no more,
they found eternity as they opened God's door.

Author notes

I pray to God every night, one of my prayers is for all our fine men and women in the military to somehow find a lasting peace in all this turmoil and come home safely to their loved ones. God Bless them all, our brave soldiers and the Iraqi people.

      Great Comment

Good Morning Bob, I am glad you enjoyed my poem. This was written at a time when a dear friend was in Iraq. He is safely home and I am so grateful for that. At the time there were 900 deaths. Now over 3,000 of our bravest and best are with God. Thank you for reading and leaving a nice comment. Take care, Sandy .

Oh, the first two stanzas especially jumped at me because the thoughts there are in my own mind so often. And the "not knowing whether it's wrong or right" because of all the pain and death either way. wow... you've touched so many chords here. Not the least of which is the comfort that God's sovereignty and the hope of heaven give us.

    Very good poem.

This poem really touched my heart. I must say that I was hoping for more poems like this, but not too many of them were entered. I am almost speechless on this. You have written a very beautiful and spiritually uplifting piece. Thanks so much for entering and many blessings to you in the contest.

Fine tribute to soldiers. We hear on the news every day of deaths that we almost become calous to it. Nine hundred struck me. It's a few compared to all who died in World Wars. But each one was somebody's son (or daughter).

One small thing. This line" "to be with God, your life you have to give" was a bit hard to read. It might need some changes to be more readable. ?? maybe.
