B.J. (My Grandson)

I call you B.J.
Some call you Will.
Born William Joesph.
Some call you Bill

My first grandchild.
So sweet and dear.
Our love has grown.
throughout the years.

Born a cute redhead.
With eyes of blue.
A little devil.
When you were two.

It was a struggle.
Not easy for you.
Childhood was hard.
made it through.

I was always there.
To lend a hand.
You make me happy
My fine young man.

You joined the Army.
To better your life.
You will help people.
with pain and strife.

Last year Germany.
Happy you're back.
Now you train.
I hope not Iraq

My heart is heavy.
With love and fear.
Of what may come.
This next year.

Carry Gram's love.
Next to your heart.
Know it is with you.
If we must part.

While it is simple it is quite moving. I am 21 years old and as I was reading this I was thinking about my grandparents and how special they are to me. I am fortunate to have them so close by, and when I am away at school it is soo hard not to be able to go to Sunday dinner or stop by for a visit and just hear my grandmother tell me about what is going on with her golf group or card club. You seem to have a very close relationship with your grandchild and I can only imagine how difficult it must be for him to have to leave you.
